FLEX held an event in Parliament to launch our report, Unravelling the Nets, attended by politicians, regulators, retailers, producers and more. The consensus was clear: the UK urgently needs a fishing visa, to stop the risks of labour exploitation via the transit loophole.

The people who keep the fishing industry running are too often brought to the UK on insecure immigration routes that leave them unprotected. This needs sorting out - FLEX's report 👇🏽
Labour exploitation in the fishing sector is not simply a matter of individual bad actors; it is underpinned by legal and regulatory gaps. Our new report, out on #HumanRightsDay, provides an in-depth analysis of the seafarer visa, and the impact on migrant fishers.

“There are so many organisations and people working on exploitation, modern slavery, trafficking, asylum seekers’ issues and migrant rights. It is essential that we do not allow the bar to lower.” As we race to the bottom, the exploitation of migrants' labour gains a stronger footing. Labour must break the cycle, writes Lucila Granada, chief executive at Focus on Labour Exploitation. 👇 bigissue.com/opinion/governm…
