Transactions: We have recalled defenseman Hunter McDonald from the @LVPhantoms (AHL). Defenseman Helge Grans and forward Jack Studnicka have been loaned to Lehigh Valley. Defenseman Cam York has been placed on injured reserve (upper-body injury) retroactive to Oct. 8.

When a coach has a bias against a player, he will consistently find reasons to limit their TOI. Tocchet fits that profile - he clearly despises giveaways. Michkov sits at 4.14 per 60, Martone at 6.89. The only way to fully protect the team from giveaways is to keep both off the ice. Yet when those two rank in the team's Top 3 in points, that logic becomes absurd #LetsGoFlyers

Rick Tocchet is a con artist…he simply doesn’t like Matvei Michkov’s game at all and will never trust him. Daniel Briere made the worst possible head coaching hire…did DB/KJ do any research at all into Rick’s coaching history?

A couple things here: 1. Worth noting it was 14:29 on Saturday, not 15-16. 2. Seems pretty clear Tocchet still is focused on shielding Michkov from what he deems to be tough matchups. 3. Doesn't sound like he's going to be increasing Michkov's ice time in the near future.

Asked Martone about his communication with Michkov off the ice. Good stuff here: “Honestly, this past couple weeks I think we’ve gotten a lot closer. I think for him, English isn’t his first language, so I think for me to go out of my way and start those conversations — ask him about his family, as him about his brother. I think that just builds chemistry on the ice. He’s been awesome this year. Definitely speaking more English, being more vocal in the room. It’s awesome to see. For us, we’re 19 and 21 in this league. We’ve got a long ways to go. I think we can be a good duo in this league for a long time.”

What a day/night. I don’t even know what to say, which is very rare for me. But I do want to make one thing clear. That win was not for me. It’s not about me. That win was for every fan. I could see the start of the season was hurting a lot of fans. I am proud of the way the boys came together in that game. They had to deal with some adversity with the Sens scoring first, having to kill a late penalty and didn’t buckle. Now it is onto the next one knowing the only way is to do it is together. Everyone with the same level of of fight and doing their job. Tonight feels good and the fans and players deserve it. Especially when a result like that win is earned through an honest effort with pride. @NHLFlyers #LetsGoFlyers

Here's the video of Matvei's quote about supporting Porter on and off the ice. "I remember my first year, I play every game so hard, and you know, media media media, calder trophy..." So great to see both he and Martone's maturity as such young players in the NHL. #LetsGoFlyers

Sucks that we even have to talk about this though because it truly did feel like we got a glimpse of what Michkov and Martone’s Flyers look like tonight. That should be able to get all of the attention, but the Tocchet stuff still needs to be addressed regardless.

In the 3rd period, Matvei played 2:45 and Porter played 3:36. The playing not to lose rather than playing to win is still absolutely disgusting. Wins are fun and all, but this type of stuff is unacceptable. Don’t just accept it cause of one victory thanks to our 2 elite talents.

Rick Tocchet should still be fired and is actively holding MM39 & PM94 back. They both go off for multi-point nights. Still treated like 3rd liners. Michkov: 14:29 (10:38 5v5 - 9th among F) Martone: 13:28 (11:26 5v5 - 7th among F) #Flyers

Matvei when Tocchet tries to get him to change after an 8 minute shift but he feels it
Jonathan Bailey
@ByJonBaileyOct 18
I asked Rick Tocchet postgame if Matvei Michkov was supposed to change on the PPG, or if he stayed by design “Well, I mean, it depends. Like, if he's on the ice and he feels it, and you know that we have possession, you don't want to change. It's a feel thing, I think.”

Alex Bump (PHI) has been out of his mind to start the AHL season. He has scored in all five games he's appeared in, leading the league with seven goals so far. OT winner for Lehigh Valley tonight vs. Springfield.

Matvei Michkov on his connection with Porter Martone as teammates and as friends: “I remember my first year, when I played every game so hard… He needs support. I support him every time, on the ice and then for life too. I want [him] to win.”

Charlie O'Connor@charlieo_connOct 18
Martone said over the past 2 weeks he & Michkov have gotten closer off the ice. Said he knows English isn't Michkov's 1st language, but he's been more talkative & vocal in the room this year. Martone said he's made it a point recently to start convos, ask about his family, etc.
