Satellite connectivity can give people and cargo a signal that holds from the first mile of a journey to the last, steady even where the line runs past the edge of the network.
Equatys, the shared satellite infrastructure platform that Space42 and @viasat have agreed to establish as co-founders, is designed so that standard smartphones and other devices connect directly to satellites. Its Direct-to-Device approach aims to extend mobile networks from space, complementing terrestrial infrastructure and widening coverage along routes through rural areas, open landscapes and remote regions.
For passengers travelling by train, this could mean keeping in touch, sharing journey updates and accessing mobile services across more of their route. For the freight moving alongside them, from containers on cross-country intermodal routes to cargo crossing remote stretches, it could mean staying tracked and monitored even where cellular networks fade. For mobile network operators, it offers a way to extend coverage through shared satellite infrastructure.

Hasan AlHosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42, joined the panel "Building the Ecosystem for Applied Intelligence" at the Presight Future Forum event. He outlined what it takes for a government to rely on AI across its most strategic infrastructure, using Space42's GIQ platform as an example. Drawing on Foresight's Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery and third-party data sources, it gives governments insights across maritime, energy, national security, and emergency response operations.
Hasan also highlighted how operational data siloed across agencies, formats, and classification levels limits AI scalability. Addressing this requires a shared, governed data layer built on common standards, with governments, platform providers, and data owners working together.
Panelists included H.E. Dr Tariq Bin Hendi, CEO, Botim and CEO and Board Member, Astra Tech; Amr Kamel, Managing Director, Microsoft UAE; Ashish Koshy, CEO, Inception42, with the session moderated by Rajeev Sibal, Managing Director, Morgan Stanley.

After 7 years as a geospatial data scientist, I quit my job.
I'm going all in to tell you stories hidden in satellite data
I've worked on cocoa and coffee supply chain monitoring, near real time flood maps with radar satellites that see through clouds, mapped trees in 3D to prevent wildfires and built pipelines that analyse crop yields at the scale of the US
But I've always kept going back to telling stories
I've done 70+ interviews of data scientists, CEOs, engineers, policy makers and artists all trying to better understand the impact of data, maps & satellites images in our lives
I've made videos seen by hundreds of thousands of people on how satellite & maps work.
So now I'm going all in
I believe the worlds need more people telling stories, of people; that statistics and data changes the world, but people and stories are what resonate.
A few weeks ago I already put a video out with @OurRadiantEarth about millions of people being miscounted in Argentina. One of the largest press outlets picked the story up, and now there's a conversation about this problem, that's what I want to go do
This is probably the scariest thing I've ever done in my life, but I'm also really excited about it
If you're a company doing cool, impactful stuff with satellite images, geospatial & data and can't get the world to pay attention, let's work together.
I have some cool stories coming up and some collaborations in the pipes.
So, if that sounds cool, I'll see you around on the internets

Otter Pup 2 has made it through Acquisition, one of the most challenging phases in its mission! Check out @GilmourSpace’s ElaraSat, our docking partner, from roughly 1 km away.
This is not a flyby. Otter Pup 2 is staying close, making it one of only a small number of free-flying spacecraft in history to operate under control within 1 km of another spacecraft.
With Acquisition complete, Otter Pup 2 is now fully relying on its onboard autonomous relative navigation to stay close to its docking partner. No ground-based navigation needed.
We trust the spacecraft to know where it is, where its partner is, and how to safely stay nearby. That’s the level of autonomy required for safe and scalable rendezvous and docking missions.

There is a bright and exciting future for humanity ahead – and space is fundamental to that future.
To achieve this, space safety must be done right. We encourage every operator to not only share ephemeris data proactively the same way Starlink already does, but to also adopt the high standards of space safety that SpaceX and Starlink use every day → starlink.com/updates/space-s…
