I believe that most people would be better off making Traditional contributions instead of Roth. Some exceptions: 1. People making too much to be eligible for the tax deduction 2. Retired people (Roth conversion time!) 3. Students working part time nitter.cf/FloopDoopz/status/1829…
PSA: Roth accounts are not tax free. When you choose to put money into a Roth, you are choosing to pay your marginal (i.e. highest) income tax rate up front. This is almost certainly not the best move to make if you're eligible for Traditional (tax deferred) contributions.

Every now and then it's amusing to see reminders of what the Windows user experience is like.

1. be far-left refugee importing government funded "charity" 2. put catholic or christian in the name so Republicans will think it's something completely different 3. profit
Replying to @DataRepublican
As I posted the other day: Catholic Charities is Louisville KY is making a killing.

It's the first day of a new month. When is the last time you backed up your important data or checked in on your personal finances?

I don't know if eyeballs can freeze, but it's nice to have more normal temperatures so I don't have to think about it.

Wrong on all counts. The Switch doesn't have any exclusives, because emulation is legal, and I don't want more corporate slop.
Replying to @Pirat_Nation
The Switch has exclusives, emulation is illegal, and I want companies to make more games.

Felt like firing up Diablo 2 for the first time in years. It's way easier to run on Linux than Windows 10 from what I can remember. No fiddling needed - just pointing Bottles at the exe file. Running PlugY and patching to 1.14d was also trivial.

I have to be doing this wrong. Has the PS4 really gotten more releases than the PS5 since the PS5 came out? I thought the "PS5 has no games" meme was just a meme. Metacritic, showing new releases from 2021 to 2025 for each of them

They covered this in my gun safety course, except the scenario was a nutjob who poured gasoline on the dog and was flicking matches at it. Unfortunately the legal answer is pretty cut and dry here.

You may not like it, but this is what peak programming work looks like. You get to have fun writing code, and there's no need to deal with the stress of production support for the crappy code you wrote. Just deliver and move on to the next project.
The worst kind of programmer 😮‍💨

Finally got around to doing the Traditional IRA contribution for this year. 17 shares of TSLA 1 share of VTI ~$1150 in income taxes avoided

Fun fact: the Roth IRA was a government psyop designed to raise tax revenues by tricking people into not taking advantage of traditional IRAs, which allow taxes to be paid much later at lower rates. In contrast, Roth contributions are taxed that year at higher marginal rates.

Jeez, those delivery numbers are horrible. Please keep selling so I buy some Tesla shares for my 2025 Traditional IRA contribution at a discount. I want to see more red!

A single day of work sandwiched between 9 days off and a 3 day weekend? I'm pretty sure that today is going to be the least productive work day of the year for me. This new year is starting off strong.

A new year means a new chance for IRA contributions. So, Roth or Traditional? To help people on the fence, I'd like to introduce FloopDoopz's IRA Theorem: For any given income level, assuming consistent tax brackets, Traditional contributions result in less tax owed than Roth.

And the traditional accounts pull further ahead as income and tax rates get higher, because the cost to contribute to the Roth increases, but Traditional withdrawals always benefit from the standard deduction and lower brackets.

If you want to see another example, check out this thread. nitter.cf/FloopDoopz/status/1829… And when you see FinTwit folks promoting the Roth IRA, keep FloopDoopz's IRA Theorem in mind and do the math for your own expected situation. Spoiler: traditional is probably better.
PSA: Roth accounts are not tax free. When you choose to put money into a Roth, you are choosing to pay your marginal (i.e. highest) income tax rate up front. This is almost certainly not the best move to make if you're eligible for Traditional (tax deferred) contributions.
