5 years ago this was a 5 block stretch of public beachfront in Venice Beach that was an eyesore riddled w/trash of careless day trippers
I decided to change this and single-handedly undertook landscaping with succulent clippings from nearby neighbors
the glorious results:
🚩🚨This web app is a life saver if you’re in California* during wildfire flare ups!
app.watchduty.org
Trad news media and ambulance chasers pump click bait and ad content into search engines or on to social platforms, making it difficult to surface real evacuation and safety data and advisories.
Map based, layered, updated with clear, concise data. Click any map icon for current incident report. No more guessing or wasted time.
If you’ve ever evacuated for wildfire, you’re aware, preparation during the season is essential and access to timely, accurate information is everything.
*app supplies wildfire data for entire continental US.
Sharing on my own accord hope it helps someone stay safe! #nortefire #brysonfire
Using AI for just 10 minutes erodes your ability persistence at hard things
Brian Christian, a. “The Alignment Problem” 2020, gave a talk on Oct. 7th @UCBerkeley campus highlighting findings in a new research study
The paper was published Oct. 3rd by Christian and peers from Carnegie Mellon, Oxford, MIT, and UCLA
Just 10 min of AI assistance on math or reading tasks boosted short-term scores but left people performing worse and giving up more often once the AI was removed compared with those who never used it.
Strongest effects when users sought direct answers. If this accumulates with daily use, short-term-optimized AI may erode the persistence and reasoning skills it aims to support.

Berkeley Homecoming Weekend
Headed to Zellerbach Hall to listen to Fithian & Holliday’s lecture on AI governance - Hitting Pause: An International Agreement on Frontier AI
A group of more than 26 researchers across public policy, security, and AI governance; political science and international relations; computer science; economics and business; history; and diplomacy published a detailed 200-page paper today examining how an international 10-year pause could be structured, implemented, and enforced, while also considering the implications on society, economics and more.
Today’s lecture is the first public lecture on the plan, and the first feasibility study of its kind by an academic body.
Hosted by Berkeley Division of Arts & Humanities @Cal Berkeley Campus, Berkeley CA

Pick a challenge that deliberately outclasses your current skill set. That is the only real mechanism for structural reinvention.
Growth isn’t an accident; it’s an intentional aesthetic. A high-leverage problem introduces the strategic tension required to strip away legacy constraints and sculpt a higher-performing version of yourself.
The friction is the design feature.
The imposter syndrome is the reflection of your ego melting away.
The discomfort is the hardening process where you learn to harness acute stress for elite performance.
Executing this structural shift over over a decade creates an asymmetric competitive advantage.
While others dilute their focus for comfort, you optimize and design for scale. To move ahead, reframe the game.

The model did what it was told. That’s not the brand.
The brief left out the part that breaks if you ship it.
I send that part back. The Floh.

Dear YouTube explainer video peeps
Dropping a looping low-quality sound clip in the audio bed for a demo or presentation is the worst thing you can do. Exceedingly distracting, annoying and results in clicking away from the content.

🚨🎬 Breaking: Paramount vows not to leave Hollywood
Paramount reached an agreement with a coalition of 12 state attorneys general led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta to resolve an antitrust lawsuit.
This clears the major legal hurdle for its Paramount to Settle States' Lawsuit acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
🔥JEV is faster, cheaper, reliable, safe.
While others chase benchmarks, academic puzzles, and argue about LLM security; a small, fast-moving team from OpenAI, Google Brain, and Meta/FAIR, backed by top-tier investors has released their first model:
JEV
Typesafe.ai has been quietly rethinking the LLM stack from first principles and building a new kind of general frontier model designed for real-world reliability, decision-making, and autonomy in production.
