Should metal-detecting rally organisers have resources on hand (i.e. pay for an appropriately qualified archaeologist to be on site) to deal with in situ / significant finds?

"I am upset postgraduates have been left out [of prior consultation] and deeply saddened for the discipline." Thanks to Sammie Lynch for her #AlumniTestimonial! Sammie temporarily withdrew from her studies and is now facing not completing her MRes! @worcester_uni, not good!

Happy #WorldBeardDay! Over on the database we have many great depictions of beards. So for today we have found DENO-FD5D1A, a #medieval lead papal bulla of Pope Urban IV. The bulla depicts two glorious beards on its reverse side on representations of Saints Peter and Paul.🧔🧔‍♂️

The first public viewing of this will be @shrewsmuseum next week as part of a @britishmuseum #SpotlightLoan #GatheringLight shropshiremuseums.org.uk/eve… Stunning object and an absolute pleasure to work on for @findsorguk
From the Bronze Age ~ found by metal detector in peaty soil in Shropshire, this tiny (5cm), astonishingly-sophisticated gold pendant is 3,000 years old. Decorated with semi-circles & geometric motifs, & a stylised representation of the sun (far R) britishmuseum.org/sites/defa…

The gaping hole in the West Midlands will do nothing to help the accessibility of studying archaeology.....
The impact of the closure of the Archaeology course is having a profound effect on current students and staff, but have the University stopped to think about the future, and what the loss of this provision means to individuals wishing to study archaeology in years to come? 1/

Please remember, what is happening @worcester_uni is only part of a bigger trend that was attempted @ArchaeologyChe1, is being fought at @UniShefArch and happened at Hull. Thread.

I’m sharing this video again because I’m furious. No market for archaeology!? Commercial archaeology is BOOMING with no new archaeologists to deliver. @worcester_uni @saveworcsarch Worcestershire Course off the Menu as Uni Ends Archaeology - youtu.be/UuBlnl1BlIk via @YouTube

#FindsFriday is an interesting example of a late medieval seal matrix. It has a simple, though stylised bird motif and an unusual handle. It probably fits a group related to merchant's seals dating c.1350-1500. finds.org.uk/database/artefa… #RecordYourFinds #ResponsibleDetecting

It's #FindsFriday again! This week we have a rare #IronAge find LEIC-64BDF7 is a copper-alloy caprine vessel or bucket mount. Animals such as cows are more common on mounts of this kind, whereas depictions of goats are rare.🐐 This Notts find was recorded remotely by @Meggard1 ❤️

I keep saying it - but this assemblage of #BronzeAge and #IronAge finds really does need to be in public ownership - and I know the people of #Shropshire and the wider #WestMidlands area are generous and supportive of our shared archaeological past. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sh…
