Clio acquired Learned Hand on September 30, an AI workspace built specifically for judges and court staff. It helps clerks analyze filings, do legal research, and draft bench memos and orders, and it's already running in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, the largest trial court in the country. CEO @Jack_Newton's framing: "AI is changing the pace and volume of legal work across the entire system, but that progress only matters if the courts can keep up." Not saying it'll definitely happen, but won't it be funny when an AI slop order is calling out an AI slop filing?

Please pray for my mother. A “normal” camera examination Tuesday went wrong, damaged her inside, so she is unconscious and on life support in ICU. I am headed straight to Denmark in few hours ✝️🙏🏻 When more people come together in prayer it is louder in heaven. Thank you for your prayers ❤️✝️🙏🏻

The next PE grift. If you have family and friends with whole life policies or annuities you may want to check on the quality of the Insurance companies. TLDR: a big portion of the Life Insurance and Annuities industry has been captured by Private Equity. They sell for premiums and have future liabilities on their balance sheet. They all have set up affiliate entities In lenient states like Vermont or off shore in Bermuda. Those entities do not have to disclose their assets. The US company transfers some of their liabilities to the affiliate to free up their balance sheet. The guy says he has seen cases where a company had $200B of liabilities and transferred $195 to the affiliate. He also saw by accident an affiliate that had $2B of liabilities supported by $200 million of assets. And many of the assets are PE and illiquid. Bottom line there are many life insurance policies and annuities that will not pay their commitments. The States will be on the hook but they have capped payouts. Interestingly he has been screaming about this and the Senate Banking committee took an interest and heard his testimony. But, a Federal bailout is a question mark. It’s incredible. Another case of PE screwing the common man who buys life insurance and annuities. Phoenix Life just failed causing $2B of losses larger than expected. There will be more. 🤦‍♂️

This night, 25 years ago - few could sleep. Americans were watching the day’s coverage, exhausted First Responders fought the need to sleep & the horrible visions behind their eyes, others worked the dark hours of the long recovery. Pray for the families. 🙏

Lawyers, look at revenue per matter, not revenue. Growing revenue with falling revenue per matter means you're buying yourself a harder job.

You don’t need to predict which side of the K wins next year; you do need a plan that doesn’t make wages and idle cash your only path to financial independence.

📕 NEW AI TRAILER: Unelected drops October 13. The last two weeks wrote this trailer for me. I launched the DSA Explorer.... then the establishment spent a week flaming me, and the Grayzone, the dissident right, and actual communists all took their shot at me. In early 2025, I helped some DOGE staffers trace where USAID money went, then spent the year figuring out what I'd walked into. It became a book: Unelected, co-written with @JoshuaLisec, out October from @PassagePress. • If you review books and have an audience, will send you a copy: [email protected]. • If you host a show and want me or Joshua on, reach us at [email protected] and/or [email protected]. For those who've already preordered: thank you so much. Your pre-orders are why Passage Press can get this out nationwide instead of submitting to the institutional censorship of the traditional publishing industry.

Yes, I agree @OrinKerr, the answer to AI is changing the way we teach and assess. Moreover, AI can help students learn more, faster. For example, we can create AI tutors and simulations for students. AI amplifies capabilities and is raising the bar for everyone. Instruction needs to change, and there is a strong case for embracing AI across the board, especially in professional schools.
In @TheAtlantic, John Paul Rollert argues that AI has made many college students into cheaters, b/c AI use to cheat is so common. But why isn't the right answer that universities have to change what they assign and how they test, to counter that? theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

Legal AI companies are becoming law firm replacements/competitors and law firms are becoming legal AI companies. All bets are off in legal. Fascinating time to be be in legal.

The entire legal profession is having a "what comes next?" moment... Goldman, Morgan Stanley, and Citi are telling Big Law firms to cut fees. Their argument is simple: AI has made research, contract review, document review, and discovery faster, so the bills should come down. Citi is already asking firms to show the AI savings when they bid for work. Morgan Stanley’s general counsel said the old model, where partners get paid off associates billing long hours, is now unstable. That model exists because the same clients asked for it. Firms then built their economics around leverage: junior lawyers doing the volume work at high rates. Now, the whole thing is unstable! Whatever happens next, @smblawgroup will be on the cutting edge...
