Happy International Credit Union Day. Thank you to the credit union accounting teams posting, reconciling, filing, and keeping the cooperative model running behind the scenes. #ICUDay #CreditUnions
Year-End File, week 2: Jan 1 reinsurance renewals are close. Set up GL accounts for ceded premium, commission, and recoverables under new treaties before they bind, not during year-end close. #Reinsurance
Core conversions get planned around members and lending. The accounting cleanup lasts months: daily file drops, manual entries, morning balance checks. Map your GL structure before conversion day. #CreditUnions
Q3 is closed. Which step took longest? For many carriers it's loading premium, claims, and commission files into the GL. Daily feeds with failure alerts turn month-end into a review. #ContinuousClose
The Year-End File, week 1: settle fixed asset additions and disposals, true up prepaid schedules, and lock 2027 GL accounts before budget loads start. These are easier to fix in October.

Deadline Desk: Q3 NAIC quarterlies are due Nov. 15. While you prepare yours, log every adjustment made outside the GL. That list is your to-do list before the March 1 annual statement.

Closing the quarter. Most of our conversations with finance leaders at insurers and credit unions start with the close, the audit, the board meeting.
To everyone closing the books this week: we see you. It holds a lot together and rarely gets applause.
As Q3 closes, one pattern from this quarter: a finance team's health shows up at the close. Carriers or credit unions, the teams under the least pressure kept their books current all along. Heading into Q4, what's the one thing you'd stop doing by hand?
#ContinuousClose
Behind the Close: consolidating an insurance group. Multiple entities, each with their own books, rolled up so nothing double-counts. In one ledger, that roll-up can run with the close instead of a spreadsheet. How much of yours runs outside your system?
#BehindTheClose
For many credit unions, the monthly board package is a second deadline inside the close: numbers pulled, schedules rebuilt in Excel. Keep the books current and board prep becomes review, not assembly. How much of yours is producing numbers vs explaining them?
#ContinuousClose
An endorsement lands mid-term. Does your UEPR reserve actually catch up, or does it wait for the next batch? Here's where the math breaks, with a real example.
