Oh my! @KarenBassLA is toast. Worst mayor ever opens the door wide open for “DSA darling” @nithyavraman. New survey released by the @californiapost shows Bass is loathed. For good reason of course.

California Paychecks, Idaho Living. Who Was Watching? Five years of unauthorized telework and $33,000 in salary overpayments raise serious questions about oversight in the State Controller’s Office. When California embraced remote work for state employees, there was always the question of who would make sure everyone followed the rules. A new State Auditor investigation suggests that, at least in State Controller Malia Cohen’s office, nobody was paying particularly close attention. Two managers were found working remotely from Idaho, Alabama and Tennessee, in violation of state telework requirements. One had been living in Idaho since 2020, working there virtually every day while listing a family member’s California address on official paperwork. Five years. An Idaho driver’s license. Property ownership in Idaho. And a California address to keep the whole arrangement going. This wasn’t some misunderstanding about the rules. The employee admitted concealing his actual residence because he was afraid of losing his job. Investigators eventually pieced things together using computer login records and public documents. Apparently, nobody at the Controller’s Office thought to look. And that’s not all. The same investigation found that Cohen’s office had overpaid two employees a combined $33,000, then waited more than a year to pursue repayment. One case remained unresolved in violation of state law. Remember, this is the office responsible for overseeing California’s finances. Keeping track of public money is supposed to be its specialty. Cohen’s office says it has implemented the auditor’s recommendations and that the employees’ false California addresses made the violations harder to detect. Both managers have since left. Fine. But investigators managed to uncover the truth by checking login records and public documents. Those aren’t exactly state secrets. Remote work isn’t the problem. Letting employees disregard the rules for years without detection is. And when the agency responsible for financial accountability can’t even get its own house in order, California taxpayers have every reason to wonder who’s minding the store.

I’m shocked. Really.
BREAKING: The California Supreme Court ruled that Sheriff Chad Bianco unlawfully seized roughly 650,000 ballots from the 2025 Proposition 50 election, ordering their return and requiring him to comply with Attorney General Rob Bonta's directive to pause his investigation.
