WSU offering PhD scholarships. We keen on applications (international applicants welcome) in the areas of (1) How silicon supplementation affects soil
nutrient cycling and carbon capture and (2) Development of silicon intervention strategies
for sustainable pest management.

Thrilled to see our new Functional Ecology @FunEcology out verifying some of our lab findings in the field. Elevated atmospheric CO2 suppresses silicon accumulation and exacerbates endophyte reductions in plant phosphorus dx.doi.org/10.1111/1365-2435… #siliceousplants

Fantastic to see our recent paper comes out! In this paper, we have shown that elevated atmospheric CO2 declines Si accumulation and exacerbates endophyte reductions in plant P. Well done Johnson et al👌

🌱🐛 Plant herbivore protection by arbuscular mycorrhizas: A role for fungal diversity? 🌱🐛

ALT Section of figure that outlines two (of many) potential outcomes from applying arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal inoculants. One scenario is where the introduced fungal taxon persists and promotes defenses of plants and thus benefits plant communities. The second scenario is where the introduced fungal taxon does not persist in the environment (possible it is not suited to it, or is outcompeted by the resident fungi already present) and there is no defense-benefit for plants.
