Today, the first paper of my PhD was published in the @ametsoc Journal of Climate: "Understanding Decadal-Scale Dynamics in the Bering Sea: Investigating Trends and Variability in Sea Ice, Winds, and Waves".
1/n: Find the full paper here: doi.org/10.1175/JCLI-D-23-04…
4/n: The increasing frequency of intense storm conditions and the lack of sea ice to protect the Alaskan coastline threatens communities and infrastructure, as illustrated by extra-tropical cyclone Merbok in 2022, when 15 m (50 ft) waves were observed.

5/n: A huge thanks to my coauthors @dr_slfarrell, John Kuhn, and Kyle Duncan for their support and teamwork. Science is a collaborative endeavour!!

How can we simulate the 3D transport of particles when a model is too coarse to capture #ocean eddies?
agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.…

ALT 100 randomly subsampled trajectories from 180 days of simulation on (a) fineresolution and (b) coarsened fields, and using coarsened fields in combination with (c) the diffusive parameterization and (d) Markov-1. While the domain is periodic, here we tile it in the zonal direction, to separate particles crossing the zonal periodic boundaries. The -3900m isobath is plotted with dashed grey lines, indicating the location of the ridge in the periodic channel.

When do you celebrate a paper? When it's accepted with revisions? When it's accepted for publication? Or when it's published? Well, that last step finally happened today, and although it feels really anti-climatic, I'm still proud to present: tc.copernicus.org/articles/1… (1/7)
