Your home is part of your wildfire plan.
California State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant has spent his career helping communities prepare for wildfire. At his own home in Auburn, that preparation is personal.
Chief Berlant was recently featured on Fire Safe People TV, where he shares how his experience with the 2009 49 Fire shaped the way he prepares his own home today, alongside his father and young son.
From clearing weeds and moving rock, to protecting vents from embers, Daniel is taking practical steps to strengthen the first five feet around his home. His message is simple: You don’t have to do everything at once. Start with one project, then keep going.

Know the difference between a Red Flag Warning and Fire Weather Watch. weather.gov/safety/wildfire-… #WeatherReady

ALT Fire Weather Watch means be prepared. A Fire Weather Watch is issued when critical fire weather conditions are possible. 'Critical fire conditions' means warm temperatures, low humidity, and strong, gusty winds. Red Flag Warning means take action! A Red Flag Warning is issued when critical fire conditions are happening or are about to happen. Avoid burning, be careful around open flames, safely dispose of cigarettes. Fires can spark and grow very quickly.

Thanks for the reminder @CAL_FIRE
Don't wait until there is smoke in the area to prepare.
When packing your go bag, include basics like a first aid kit, radio, flashlight, batteries, phone charger, snacks, & water. Take your phone & keys if evacuating fast. A ready emergency kit ensures vital items for quick evacuation. For a full list, visit: tinyurl.com/2h6f68mv

The vast majority of wildfires are caused by people. Do your part to reduce the risk of wildfire by mowing in the morning, ensuring campfires are dead out, and not driving in dry vegetation. One Less Spark = One Less Wildfire.

We’ve previously mentioned that fire can spread from tree to tree, but when you space trees and shrubs far apart, you break path for fire to take. The spacing between grass, shrubs, and trees is crucial to reduce the spread of #Wildfires. #DefensibleSpace #Zone2
