At the Fircroft Trust, we don't just support people...
We;
- support skills + independence
- support aspirations + dreams
- work with each person in a person centred way
We love to see the people we support thrive. Find out more about our services visit thefircrofttrust.org
We want to hear from other providers, about your year, and hear about excellence elsewhere in the social care sector.
What has been your proudest moment so far of 2025?
What has been your biggest barrier in 2025?
What success stories have you had relating to people you support?
Did you know that simple things like:
-smiling
- doing a power pose
- being more hopeful
can have real impacts on your emotional + physical health.
Research has shown that actions like standing like "Supergirl" or giving gratitude for things you're thankful, has amazing effects.
Independence isn't always about big milestones.
At The Fircroft Trust, we see how confidence grows in everyday moments:
• Choosing what to wear
• Making a cuppa
• Saying yes, no, or not yet
We embed choice + routine into daily life, where independence truly thrives.
Every behaviour communicates something.
By identifying the function, we can better support the person.
The "functions" of behaviour are:
* Sensory
* Escape
* Attention
* Tangible
By understanding the function, we can support people in a far more person centred way.
Why should the focus of PBS be underpinned by increasing quality of life?
If you focus on behaviours, that becomes all people see. If you focus on choice + control, independence + skills, then not only can life improve, but any behaviours naturally reduce anyway.
In our Residential + Supported Living Services, we believe building skills, independence, + supporting people towards what is most important to them, helps achieve + maintain a great quality of life.

Independence is often pitched as big acts—but often it is the smaller, every day steps that make a huge difference:
- choosing what to wear
- preparing snacks/food
- planning the day
Our Services focus on building everyday skills—through layered support, practice, encouragement.

Behavioural science can help influence how others act, + increase safety through small, simple, incremental change.
This book about how positive systemic change can happen, is a must read for anyone working in health or social care.
We believe EVERYONE, irrespective of any support need, should have choice + control over their own life, + be supported in a strengths focussed way, based on what is most important to them.
Inclusion means positive risk, to support + enable people to live the lives they choose.
