Just a note that @ForBeginners has not paid my royalty checks in years. I did get two letters that said they contained royalty checks, but did not. I have not been able to contact them to resolve this. Any fellow For Beginners authors on here?

Replying to @DoctorChrisVT
@DoctorChrisVT just listened to you on @today_explained and I was disheartened to hear how difficult in the US it is to regulate or change anything related to ultra processed foods. I would like to see an app that scanned ingredient labels to identify ultra processed ingredients.

That a shopper could use to check. I have some frozen foods that as far as I can see are real foods. But sometimes ingredients set me back. Citric acid, that sounds benign and real. I'm pretty sure lactic acid is ok, but not certain. I can't google each ingredient. I need help.

I plan on asking my local (not cheap) grocery if they could label or somehow indicate real food.

Continuing disorganization at @amazon once again delays a shipment to me. Updates now show that t they sent the item from their warehouse in Portland, a couple of miles from where I live, down to California, as the best way to reach me. Rain pants. In PDX that's an emergency!

More and more HBO stuff is on Netflix now. What is going on? Is Netflix buying HBO?

Tried to go with Quantum Fiber @QNTMFiber for my internet, gave them two weeks to try to get it installed, but had to cancel because their engineers could give NO estimate of when they would resolve the steps necessary to do so, while Xfinity can do it yesterday. Way to go, QF!

I want an Erving Goffman analysis of the happiness scale.
Now look at this chart. How sure are you that an increase from 6 to 7 on this 10-point self-reporter happiness scale is "small"? Is it bigger than an increase from 7 to 8? Or smaller? Worth asking before you jump to believe in the stories people tell with charts like these.

Thanks to immigrants, the US won 75% of Nobel prizes in 2023. Without them, we only would have won 25%. High skilled immigration is a policy lever for more innovation unlike anything else. Oh and its free.

Nothing he says here violates the gag order, which was limited to comments about the judge's staff. Very narrow.
In case you're wondering how Donald's gag order is going:

Fuck you, NYT, Portland is not a "Broken City," we have the same problems as every other city. But if you need one city to call "broken," why's it always us? Oh and yes we welcome trans people, could that be why you talk of us just as Trump does?

Always good to have a prophet on the payroll. And the word of god on the campaign trail.
Trump’s former National Security Advisor and future Cabinet member (if he wins) Michael Flynn explains to MAGA ‘Prophet’ Julie Green today why he believes she is a true prophet whose weekly messages come straight from God.

Let's be real, if Star Trek-like transport devices are developed, it's going to be by dogs to transport food they are staring at directly into their mouths. They've been working on it for a while now.

I always think of this scene when I see a reference to Adm. Turner.
In the 1970s, ADM Stansfield Turner took a visiting Soviet admiral to the Boston Pops to show him American culture. When they returned to the Lincoln Continental that the Navy had rented, all the tires including the spare had been stolen. #SeaStorySaturday

Can Dems just admit that we knew Menendez was corrupt all along, but couldn't call for him to step down while Christie was gov? Republicans would have done the same, but it's still hypocritical of us.

Why is Netflix quickly becoming HBO?
