China made it a problem though, you're not talking about the same group of people
Let me get this straight. Football fans have spent years mocking Mbappé by calling him a dictator, and everyone found it hilarious. But the moment he admits that he laughs at the jokes too, suddenly he becomes the villain and deserves to be cancelled? So it is acceptable to mock someone for years, but the moment they show that they are in on the joke, they become the problem?
What an extraordinary display of hypocrisy.

International soccer star @KMbappe should not apologize for calling Mao Zedong a dictator. Mao was a dictator, and by orders of magnitude, he did more harm to the Chinese people than a comment from a soccer player ever could. Mao was the leader of the CCP for decades and his dictatorship and disastrous policies killed tens of millions of Chinese people in the Cultural Revolution, the Great Famine, and other atrocities. Involved in the Party from its first national meeting in 1921, Mao is the principal historical figure for a Party that continues his practices of oppression and ideological purges. For decades, the CCP has denied the Chinese people basic human rights including freedom of expression and freedom of religion. These are rights enjoyed by Mbappe and millions of people around the world and Mbappe should exercise this opportunity to tell the horrific truth about Maoâs dictatorship.
The real disgrace in this news story is the companies rushing to apologize so they can continue to do business in China. The CCP is the largest oppressor of the Chinese people and their human rights, and those businesses that work with the CCP help normalize its crushing brutality. reuters.com/business/media-tâŠ

Remember when I wrote about MbappĂ© leaving Nike for On? I said âDonât rent your name. Own the thing.â Well, this is the other side of owning the thing.
On Tuesday, Onâs shares dropped about 3.5% in pre-market trading in New York. The reason was the MbappĂ© comment in China.
Let me explain why.
When On announced MbappĂ© as its global ambassador on 18 September, its shares went up about 5%. Investors liked the idea of the worldâs biggest football star leading the brandâs move into football. According to The Athletic, the deal also gives MbappĂ© a stake in the company, although On hasnât commented on that.
Now the same face is the problem. About 21% of Onâs sales come from Asia-Pacific, and about 10% from China alone. Investors are worried that Chinese consumers will start linking On to the controversy, the way they linked Mengniu, Dongpeng and Milkground before those brands dropped him.
To be fair, analysts at Stifel say the damage may be limited for now, because On hasnât even started selling football products yet. Their estimate is that a 10% drop in Chinese sales would cut Onâs total revenue by about 1%. Not small, but not a disaster.
But hereâs the lesson for players and brands. When youâre just an ambassador, a controversy can cost you a contract. When youâre reportedly a part-owner, it can also cost you value in the company you own. Your name is the asset, and the asset moves with every sentence you say.
One sentence on a talk show, and it showed up on Wall Street. What a world!

đš đĄđđȘ: The controversy surrounding Kylian MbappĂ© in China is now affecting the stock market!
Swiss sportswear brand ON, which recently signed Mbappé as an ambassador following his departure from Nike, saw its shares DROP by 3.5% in pre-market trading on Wall Street on Tuesday.
Investors are concerned about the potential impact of the controversy on the brandâs reputation in China.
The Asia-Pacific region accounts for MORE THAN 20% of ONâs global sales.
The company has over 80 stores in China and aims to reach 100 by the end of the year.
