It’s not underrepresented. It is systemically excluded. It is institutionally oppressed. Accountability starts with language.

Actually yes you have a responsibility as an academic to make it blatantly clear that you support trans rights. Treating trans rights like some sort of academic dispute that you don't want to be involved in is not good enough in a time where trans people are at risk every day.

So join @chasestrangio and me today as we push accountability for lawmakers who are jeopardizing the lives of our community, particularly trans youth.
For #TransDayofVisibility and the #TransWeekOfAction finale, let’s put pressure on Arkansas and Alabama governors to halt anti-trans legislation. Tell
@AsaHutchinson to VETO HB1570 and @kayiveyforgov to VETO HB1/SB10 + HB 391.
My heart hurts thinking of the incredible souls we’ve lost to bigotry and hate. Protect, uplift, and support trans kids! #TransDayOfVisibility
On this #TransDayOfVisibility, I’m thinking of Leelah Alcorn and Blake Brockington. Two trans teens who died by suicide just six years ago. Both had families that were unsupportive of their identities. They dreamed of a better world for other trans youth though.

Yes, systematic racism is the problem. But my dear fellow PIs, in #academia WE ARE THE SYSTEM. We define the culture of our labs. We gatekeep admissions and hiring. We become the chairs, the deans, the provosts, the presidents. Real change must begin with us.
