Congratulations to LNP on its victory in the Qld Election. We look forward to a detailed plan for achieving supported emission reduction targets of 75%, to transition Qld from a high per capita emitter to a global leader in pollution reduction ๐ญ ๐ชธ

When climate action delayers Bjorn Lomborg, Steve Milloy, Alex Epstein and Patrick Moore claim coral reefs are fine, show them this:
The mass bleaching of coral reefs around the world is now the most extensive on record. A staggering 77% of the worldโs corals have been affected, says the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reut.rs/4eOgjdl

The government has thrown our Reef a lifeline - $192 mill to reduce water pollution. Wetland restoration needs to be part of this strategy. Tell the Environment Minister that you support wetland restoration to boost the health of our Reef.

Restoring wetlands in 5% of land at the edge of sugarcane farms can slash nitrogen pollution by up to half!

The government's handling of such a significant report is extremely disappointing. That it has found the outlook for our Reef is โvery poorโ must be a call to arms, and it should be shared widely with the Australian public.

The outlook for the Reef had been deemed โvery poorโ even before the summer from hell, according to the biggest report on the Reefโs health issued every 5 years by the GBR Marine Park Authority late last week.

What do a flying fox, great-billed heron and mangrove jack have in common?
They all live in wetlands! 2 out of 5 animals worldwide live or breed in wetlands! Thatโs nearly half of all species. Many more depend on wetlands for food and shelter.
So how's the Reef doing after it's "summer of hell?" Well we won't know that until next year, despite @aims_gov_au releasing their annual coral monitoring report today.

Conserving and restoring our wetlands and degraded coastal habitats gives us a major advantage in the fight against climate change. Wetlands can work alongside efforts to reduce our overall carbon emissions as they have massive carbon storage capacity ๐

The upcoming report will help build a picture of the impacts of the 2022-23 summer. But it won't tell us how the Reef fared in 2024 after it's fifth mass bleaching. We'll have to wait another year for that...
๐บ Wrapping up this yearโs Long-Term Monitoring Program (LTMP) survey season
The team started surveys last Sept before #coralbleaching & 2 cyclones affected the #GreatBarrierReef this summer. Most of the surveys wonโt have captured impacts from these events.
