🦔A farmer in Vineland, New Jersey photographed a neighboring golf course and accidentally caught 62 unpermitted gas generators at a data center that powers Microsoft's AI tools. Each ran at 1,982 kilowatts, over 50 times the state permit threshold. New Jersey fined operator DataOne $1.1 million, the largest fine ever against a data center in the state. DataOne can keep operating while it reapplies for the permits it already failed to get.
My Take
DataOne applied for permits, got rejected, and turned the generators on anyway next to farmland, homes, and two schools. The fine is a million dollars for a company with billions in capital. They decided it was cheaper to break the law and pay the penalty than to wait for approval. And they're probably right, because the fine doesn't shut anything down. They get 45 more days to reapply while the generators stay on.
Oracle can't get a gas pipeline permit in New Mexico. Over 500 communities have banned new data centers. And here's a company that just skipped the permits entirely and got a fine it can pay without noticing. The AI infrastructure buildout is on a collision course with every community it touches. These companies need power now and they're not going to wait for anyone to say yes. New Jersey already killed data center tax credits because residents organized. The more of these stories that come out, the harder it gets to site the next facility anywhere. The industry wants to spend a trillion dollars on infrastructure, but the people who live next to it have a vote too.

🇲🇦 | La abstención gana las «fake» elecciones del régimen de Mohamed VI.
Marruecos es una olla a presión marcada por el descontento social fruto de la gestión tiránica de una monarquía que vive «a todo tren» mientras su pueblo se muere de hambre.
El 61,9% de los marroquíes no se molestó en ir a votar en la performance pseudo-democrática del régimen que se celebró ayer; es la cifra de abstención más alta en 20 años.
En segundo lugar con 97 escaños quedó el Partido Autenticidad y Modernidad, un partido monárquico fanático del régimen. Le sigue Rassemblement National, de corte liberal, con 66, los nacionalistas de Istiqlal con 65 y el partido islamista, Partido Justicia y Desarrollo, con 54 escaños.
Con menor relevancia aparecen los conservadores amazigh de Movimiento Popular con 29 asientos, los socialdemócratas de Unión Socialista de Fuerzas Populares con 26, los izquierdistas de Partido del Progreso y el Socialismo, la coalición Alianza de la Izquierda con 19 y 8 respectivamente y Unión Constitucional con 17.

⚠️ Los mercados descuentan ya una probabilidad del 68% de otra subida de tipos de un cuarto de punto en octubre, según CME FedWatch.
📊 Esto ocurre solo semanas después de que la Fed elevara su tasa de referencia al rango 3.75%-4.00%, su primera subida en tres años.
📉 Los rendimientos del Tesoro se dispararon el miércoles:
🔹 El bono a 10 años alcanzó el 5.125%, nivel no visto desde antes de la crisis financiera global.
🔹 El bono a 2 años subió más de 13 puntos básicos, por encima del 4.9%.
🔍 Las causas:
🔸 Un informe que mostró mayores presiones inflacionarias.
🔸 Débil demanda en la subasta de bonos a 5 años.
🔸 Competencia de la emisión de deuda de los hyperscalers.

For years, I didn’t take much notice of the small boat crossings.
But once you start looking into even the smallest details, you realise just how organised the whole operation around them is.
The boats enter the Channel and vessels are waiting to support them.
They reach land and coaches are ready to take people away.
Then, if a protest appears, huge numbers of police suddenly seem to be available.
Just look at the number of police cars here.
The scale of resources being thrown at this is staggering.
