A happy @PatchBirding day yesterday. Two brand new, first ever patch records with Little Owl and Wheatear, both within about 100m of each other. Need to go back for more Owl pics I think 🦉 Up to 78 species for the year now. #pwc2026

One of my favourite days of the year when all the Swallows, House Martins and Swifts appear en masse. None yesterday. Thousands today. And a first ever patch Marsh Harrier to add the cherry on top. @PatchBirding #pwc2026

Awesome surprise this morning to see a Red-Flanked Blue Tail turn up virtually on the doorstop. Lifer #201. Only shame is that it was about 500m outside my #pwc2026 patch boundary 🫤 I’ll nab one of those 3 pointers one day!

After a mildly disappointing 75 species last year, #pwc2026 got off to a flier today. Water Rail, Red Kite, Chiffchaff and only a second ever Lapwing sighting as a flock passed over. Have tweaked my patch further north this year to take in some more water. 100 here we come!

Gloriously sunny lunchtime stroll with Skylarks singing and a very early chorus of chiffchaffing. Even a few Butterflies about. Spring definitely around the corner. Score up to 55 ✅ Plenty still to find #pwc2025

Gorgeously sunny lunchtime stroll today. First Sedge Warbler adds another tick to the #PWC2024 list which is now up to 76 ✅. The local Egyptian Geese seem to have been busy too. Still no flippin’ Coot 🤬@PatchBirding

Little bit of #PWC2024 magic this evening as I found a White Stork on my patch. Lifetime ✅ and would never imagine I’d find one just up the road. Typically I didn’t have my camera with me but got a couple of snaps through my binos. @PatchBirding

Milestone day for my 2024 @PatchBirding challenge - House Martin & Whitethroat took me to 71 species & 74 points so far, beating whole of 2023. 8 new ✅ not seen last year and plenty of incoming migrants and local residents still to find. Would ❤️ a first 3 pointer🤞🏻 #PWC2024

Good yomp around my #pwc2024 patch and a few colourful ticks added - Red Kite, Grey Partridge and Yellowhammer all most welcome. Total up to 60 and a bunch of near misses to nail down. Have heard Rooks, Bullfinches and Coots but refuse to ✅ until I see them properly.

Up to 50 for my @PatchBirding list with Canada Goose, LBB Gull and Reed Bunting today. Also heard my first chiffchaffing Chiffchaff which must mean spring’s nearly here. A cheeky Waxwing on its way home would be handy if the birding gods are listening #patchworkchallenge

1st @PatchBirding lunchtime stroll of 2024 strikes #patchgold. I missed R.Legged Partridge all last year (more to do with my talent rather than its absence) but turns up today & the floods brought a Mute Swan 🦢 too. So that’s 2 up on last year already. 25 down… 75 to go.

Bring on #PWC2024. Essentially the same patch as last year. Aiming for 80 species, but 100 isn’t impossible. It’s an awesome idea and I highly recommend everyone goes to @PatchBirding to sign up - go see what’s been on your doorstep all along but you’ve never noticed before.

Last stroll didn’t turn up anything new so my @PatchBirding score finished on 71 species for 73 points. Giving myself a C+ - could do better. But nearly 10 up on 2022 and finding Water Rail and Lesser Whitethroat were highlights. I know there’s more out there so bring on 2024

Into the 70s for my @PatchBirding list. Great to add Water Rail and Cetti’s to the list last week and this week’s floods brought Shoveler and Teal (a change from the more usual 🐑). 85 target feels a way off, but who knows. And I still don’t have a Partridge!! #patchgold
