@andyburnham, you are robbing Peter to pay Paul because this £65m was already in Defras budget, you’ve just pinpointed a few areas to prioritise it on. You could really help by abolishing IHT, fertiliser tax, double cab pick up tax and your plans to realign with the EU, without being in it, it the worst outcome possible.
I know I’ve got work to do to win the trust of Britain’s farmers.
Today we’re putting £65m more into supporting farmers through this drought and preparing for the summers ahead.
They’re on the frontline of a changing climate and they shouldn’t be left to face it alone.
The ability to grow our own food is national security. I’ll treat it that way.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The £65m is reprioritised from Defra's existing farming budget, not new money from the Treasury. Total agricultural spending remains unchanged as funds are diverted from other departmental programmes. fwi.co.uk/news/burnham-a… defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2026/08/15/new…
The Powerdrive head is a 'hungry' beast. At least 3yrs growth is no problem. Flails in reverse for the first pass, satisfied customer with the finnished job.

First of the new hedgecutters to arrive earlier than promised and straight into work on some 4 year growth. Little more to say than a perfect machine for all occasions.

Last mowing work pre drilling of new grass! Let's hope it rains this week. 🙏💧 #prayingforrain @BenW360Rural @SpearheadWorld @Sharmansagri
Drilled on 24th April. I don't get it,put some slug pellets on to make it easier to find the seed. No rain since that date to mean anything but slugs are active. I do hope the forcast for next week is correct.
