When someone has never encountered these ideas, sometimes it opens the door to a conversation not about how awesome "design patterns" are, but rather a different level of depth & intentionality than a newer person may have previously applied in thinking about software design.
Mildly unsettling: Waze has a different voice for the drive home today - deeper, like it has a cold, but only for half the directions.
