Hot take: D3 should go back to the Primary + Special + Heavy system. Double special proved to be so broken that bungie literally couldn't balance it for 8 entire years, and the fact the you aren't always forced to use a primary made them feel irrelevant for 99% of activities. This overreliance on splash/burst damage special weapons also made Destiny's enemy design worse by proxy as Bungie started making enemies that weren't designed with primary weapons in mind (hello wyverns, hello tormentors, hello subjugators), which made the game feel much worse as an fps even if it did feel more space magic-ey. Destiny's primary gunplay is literally top tier among fps games, so it shouldn't be overshadowed by "primary weapon archetype that shoots autotracking rockets that don't need to hit crits #19870" I could probably be convinced to change my mind on this, but it seems like a pretty logical position.
