Pleased to share our article on promising polymer composites for hydrogen adsorption and storage applications: doi.org/10.1016/j.ijhydene.2…
Sharing our review of conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) for hydrogen storage applications. CMPs offer high specific surface area, large micropore volume, modifiable structures, and elevated enthalpy of adsorption. @BristolChem doi.org/10.1016/j.ijhydene.2…
Here we report on a one-pot scalable synthesis method using autoclaves to produce conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) with enhanced surface area and exceptional adsorption capabilities for CO₂ and heavy metal ions. doi.org/10.1039/D5TA01740H
We are seeking a motivated PhD student to join our group, working on the synthesis and application of smart functional materials for mobility assistance and digital healthcare technologies.
This funded 3.5-year PhD position is available for students worldwide. More info below!

Collaborative work between Ulia (@BristolChem) & Ozlem (@Gazi_Universite) on "Electrorheological Fluids Based on Porous Carboxyl-Functionalized Polytriphenylamines" now available via @ACSPublications.pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…
Maxi’s work on a series of dopamine-based polymers and introduced as non-cytotoxic, single-component bio-adhesives that outperform commercial options features on the front cover of Macromol. Rapid Commun. See article 2400345 (doi.org/10.1002/marc.2024003…) for more details. xitter.cf/FaulResearch/status/18…
Our new manuscript Triphenylamine-Based Conjugated Microporous Polymers as the Next Generation Organic Cathode Materials is now available online in @wileyinresearch's Advanced Materials Early View.doi.org/10.1002/adma.2024102…
A huge congratulations to Dr Safa Al Siyabi for successfully passing her PhD viva! With thanks to @AnnaGSlater of the University of Liverpool and @sebrochat of the University of Bristol for their expertise and time during the viva proceedings.
Excellent achievement by Dr Fang and thanks to all examiners involved.
Very proud of @XueFang_Chem, co-supervised by @Charl_FJ_Faul, who passed her PhD viva today @BristolChem.
Thank you to @Buttsresearchgp and @a_logsdail for examining and @FaulResearch for letting us celebrate in their office space.
Proud to share our paper by Worth et al. that explores the use of polytriphenylamine-based conjugated microporous polymers for advanced hydrogen storage applications in a thorough and detailed study. With thanks to @wileyinresearch for publishing in Small. doi.org/10.1002/smll.2024072…
New paper in @ChemistrySelect from @BristolChem: “Towards Implantable Artificial Muscles: Epoxy-Based Bilayer Thermal Actuators". Key points include safe, low-voltage operation at physiological temps aimed at improving life for the aging population. doi.org/10.1002/slct.2023049…
Congratulations to Dr Maximilian Hagemann who passed his PhD viva this afternoon. With thanks to Prof Stephen Mann of @BristolChem and Prof Olli Ikkala of @AaltoUniversity for their expertise in the examination process. Photo below beautifully self-assembled in height order.
Prof. Olli Ikkala from Aalto University's Dept. of Applied Physics develops functional materials through hierarchical self-assemblies and biomimetics. He now visits the Faul Group. Here he is giving a lecture on life-inspired soft matter dynamics and functionalities today.
Prof Faul was recently invited to spend some time at @Tsinghua_Uni Xuetang International Chemistry Summer School. Charl spent 6 years here as adjunct professor (2013–2019). Group member Jerry Mintah joins along on his first trip to China!
Many thanks to @AnnaGSlater, @MikePrice42, @drananymishra and Prof. Kaner of @uclachem for their engaging talks at the 2024 Timms Lecture this week here at @BristolUni/@BristolChem.
Our cover feature with @ACS_AMI/@ACSPublications! Here, we describe a porous organic polymer (POP) made of interconnected, protonated polyaryl amines. This material rapidly removes carcinogenic Cr₂O₇²⁻ with high capacity, selectivity and reusability. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs…
