Let me give you this brief answer. This is one of the few things many people get wrong about Islam. They confuse apostasy with treason. If a Muslim leaves Islam and then begins spying on Muslims and reporting to non-Muslims, they're committing treason, and the punishment if they’re caught is death, by whatever means. Remember, Treason is defined as betraying your nation or trying to overthrow the government, and we all know the punishment for treason in most countries, I believe. But simply leaving Islam isn't a reason to be killed. If that were the case, you would have heard that the Prophet ﷺ had sentenced so and so countless times during his time.
