The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus
Motherhouse Chapel
New Ulm, MN
Sound on! 🔈
A personal note on this one:
My sister is a Handmaid of the Heart of Jesus, so I have watched this community grow for years and have seen up close what their life of prayer and service does for a diocese. Archbishop Grob has invited the Handmaids to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, and the first sisters are expected to arrive in the fall of 2027.
They will live in the old convent of the Dominican Sisters of the Perpetual Rosary in Wauwatosa, and that building needs a great deal of work before it can be a home again. The link below is where you can help with the renovation. Watch the video, pray for the sisters, and support them if you are able.

Earlier today, a letter from Pope Leo XIV arrived at Rate Field. Go White Sox!
We hosted our second singles event for young adult Catholics, and the turnout was encouraging!
144 participants - 73 men, 71 women
Median age: 28
Parishes: 55 locations (One guy even drove 160 miles to come!)
Young Catholics want to date! We're glad to make the introduction.
Somebody in downtown Detroit put Pope Leo in their apartment window and I need this person to know they are doing the Lord's work.
Anytime I see someone suggesting the unimportance of a father being there, I remember the coach who got pressed on why he let his star leave the playoffs for his child's birth. His answer: "That's the height of a human experience."
A father showing up is never the lesser story.
🚨👶 Jérémy Doku could temporarily leave Belgium's World Cup camp to be present for the birth of his son, and the debate has exploded across Europe. 🇧🇪
French journalist France Pierron didn't hold back:
🗣️ Pierron: "Are you seriously telling me these players have sacrificed everything to come to the World Cup, and you're leaving just to cut an umbilical cord? 😳
You're lucky enough to play in a World Cup. It's an incredible privilege, and hundreds of footballers would do anything to be in your position. That opportunity might never come around again in your life.
And you're going to throw it all away just to attend your child's birth?
It's a moment where the father isn't really needed. He has a symbolic role. You hold her hand and take a photo. And then what?
You're going to miss 10 hours, experience an emotional high, and be exhausted afterwards. You can't miss a World Cup.
Some people may have gone into debt just to get to the World Cup, maybe sacrificed everything to be there, and you're leaving to cut an umbilical cord..." 😳
The reaction has completely split fans. Some believe family comes before everything, while others see the World Cup as an opportunity that may never come around again. 🌍
What would you do: stay with your national team or be there for your son's birth? 🤔
Tilt-a-whirls, funnel cakes, and a pretty good view of the steeple! Festival weekend at St. John Vianney is this weekend!

Eight years ago today, the bishop asked me:
"Do you resolve to be united more closely every day to Christ the High Priest, who offered himself for us to the Father as a pure Sacrifice, and with him to consecrate yourself to God for the salvation of all?"
And I answered: "I do, with the help of God."
Eight years later, I am still being made into what I promised to be. And that is exactly where I want to be. Deo gratias 🙏
The first night with the steeple lighting replaced and God generously complemented it with the perfect backdrop!
First Holy Communion celebrations are all the more special when they align with your aunt's visit home from the Motherhouse!
Such a blessing to celebrate three new communicants in our family with my sister home from MN! 🕊️🤍
Fewer vocations means fewer Masses. Longer drives. Harder schedules. That part is obvious.
The harder part is this. The Church doesn't just need priests to celebrate Mass. She needs shepherds who know their flock. Jesus didn't just feed the crowds. He called us by name. That kind of love takes a ministry of presence grown over time.
Pray for vocations! Not just so the schedule gets easier. So that we as shepherds can know our sheep.

Here is what the Hawthorne Dominicans are about:
An order of Catholic nuns who care for the terminally ill poor has sued to block a New York transgender-rights law that requires nursing homes to use pronouns, assign rooms and allow restroom access based on a patient's gender identity, or risk jail time. trib.al/kXikWLn
"And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage."
He is risen!
Feeling very grateful for my parishioners! After a long day of Lenten confessions (it was our annual diocesan event: "12 Hours of Reconciliation"), I returned to my rectory to find this picture perfect loaf of bread!
