Statement from Father Joe's Villages on the Attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego: There are moments when grief exceeds language. Monday’s hate-fueled attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego is one of them. Three lives were taken. We grieve with the families affected by this tragedy and with the entire Muslim community of San Diego. At Father Joe's Villages, we believe every person is made in the image of God and deserves to be treated as such. An attack on a house of worship is an attack on that belief and on all of us. Grief is not enough. We must be willing to name what creates the conditions for this kind of violence and commit to changing it. Hate has no place in our community. We must work to build a healthy community that values diversity and understanding in a spirit of unity. We stand with the Muslim community of San Diego in prayers for healing.
