A joy to be present at the launch of Philip’s ministry. May God bless him and the communities he will serve.
A significant occasion at @StOlaveHartSt on Thursday for the institution of the Revd Philip Dawson as Rector. His gift for building relationships in the City will be a blessing as his ministry begins in this historic parish.

Checking into #clergymaltclub with a drop of Lagavulin. Happy Feast of the Nativity, you faithful, exhausted servants! God is very near.

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of the Church is governed and sanctified: hear our prayer which we offer for all your faithful people, that in their vocation and ministry they may serve you in holiness and truth to the glory of your name.

The Precentors Conference of the Church of England (the canons responsible for music and worship in the cathedrals) held their annual meeting this year in Rome. It was a pleasure to welcome them and to escort them to the Pope's General Audience today. [Photo (c) Vatican Media]

An incredibly stimulating and moving Annual Precentors’ Conference in Rome, reflecting on ecumenical dialogue, liturgy and the relationship between worship and mission. All topped off by meeting His Holiness Pope Leo XIV!

Out and about this morning. Splendid to be with the fine folk of St Swithun’s Hempsted for their Eucharist. Always a warm welcome, prayerful worship and a cracking cup of coffee!

Out and about in the diocese. This time to the bucolic Turkdean, to preside at Matins with Holy Communion. This place is a testament to the fact that rural churches can grow. Confident liturgy, beautiful music and warm hospitality. All good ingredients for growth!

It’s always good to be out and about in the diocese. This morning I was with the fine folk of Quenington on their first Sunday in vacancy.

Tell me you haven’t read or heard Rowan Williams without telling me you haven’t read or heard Rowan Williams…

A candle burns in @GlosCathedral in thanksgiving for the life of Pope Francis. Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.

Two pictures, 12 years apart. A treat to have my dearest friend Chris preach Holy Week at Gloucester Cathedral. We were ordinands then, now Chris is a Head & I a Canon Precentor. There are few things more precious than a friend beside you. We think that age has been kind.

On the train to Masham to be with the good people of the Yoredale Benefice to lead a Lent Quiet Day tomorrow. Prayer: wasting time and growing up.

All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matt 25:35). Rule of St Benedict, chapter 53.

Howells Gloucester Service and ‘Laudate pueri Dominum’ from Monteverdi’s Vespers. Now that’s an Evensong!

Robert was one of those priests who will be spoken of in decades to come. His ministry & Rowan's articulation of it are a profound lesson for all of us. Can a fearful church have the confidence to clear a space and let God do the lifting? youtube.com/watch?v=8nflqTDu…

One little project I’ve been working on is to bring all of our chapels back into regular use. Today, we celebrated the 0800 BCP Communion in the Chapel of St Paul for the first time and it was rather lovely.
