“The Year of Hibernation” turns 15 yrs old this weekend. Not really sure the appropriate way to celebrate the thing that got me out of my parents’ basement. I was dreaming up these songs when I was a dishwasher at my grandma’s nursing home and each idea felt like a safe haven from the demons in my mind. I’d take my battery-operated keyboard downtown after work and play “17,” “Afternoon,” and “Cannons” below an escalator trying to save up enough money to record. A man yelled in my face once that if I was a real musician I could play something by Elton John. I’m inclined to agree with him.  This little collection of songs was the seed to a garden that has taken over my life with love, beauty, and profound wonder.
