MAGA is not conservatism. Period. It is a radical reactionary movement built around authoritarianism, parochialism, and a cult of personality. Its economic policies also reject free-market principles in favor of dirigisme and protectionist tariffs that give the government a greater role in shaping the economy. The movement is a fragmented set of beliefs, heavily dependent on the whims of a man who may not be entirely in control of his faculties. The justifications and rationalizations offered for his policies and actions are baffling.
I wrote an essay some time ago about why conservatives should vote Democratic. It isn’t aimed at the inevitable trolls who will flood the replies. It’s for conservatives who recognize that Republicans have failed them but are planning to stay home. Read the essay, and consider voting Democratic instead..

Voters have had enough of what I can only call Trump’s Third World vibe. His territorial claims on neighbours and his petty insistence on renaming lakes and oceans, his obsession with building monstrous triumphal arches, his refusal to understand the difference between the Nobel Prize Committee and the Norwegian state (“a shithouse country”), his demands that political opponents be locked up; and, now, his overt electoral bribery, his offer to send a $5,000 cheque to every American if the Republicans hold Congress.
Nowhere is the Third Worldery more visible than in the way the president’s coterie has grown rich in office. The gifts from foreign governments, the digital currency racket – these would, until an eye-blink ago, have been unthinkable in the US. A handy test of whether you are in a tinpot autocracy is that the richest people are not entrepreneurs but presidential cronies.

BREAKING: Trump administration proposes allowing Russia to sell large amounts of natural gas to Europe, offering Putin billions in revenue, with envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff arguing Ukraine should now consider restarting all pipelines that used to carry it, per the NYT.
The same envoys are weighing the release of up to $100 billion in frozen Russian sovereign assets as an upfront incentive for a limited ceasefire. European officials rejected that outright.

Ukraine should obliterate the Russian energy infrastructure. One cannot unilaterally stop fighting back when Putin keeps bombing Ukrainian cities and energy grid. The ceasefire was never respected by Putin.
We never communicate what we will do next in our operations. Last night, we did not attack any energy facilities on the territory of Russia because President Trump said that there would be an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. We did not attack, while Russia attacked our gas stations, energy infrastructure, and other facilities.
I think it was Putin’s answer to President Trump. And the message from Russia was very clear – they don't know anything about the energy ceasefire. It's a pity, because they always find reasons not to stop this war. Which is why I think we need more pressure on Russia.

This morning, at least 30 people were killed when a Russian guided bomb struck two passenger buses in the Ukrainian frontline city of Kramatorsk.
Another 18 people were wounded in the attack.
