As we approach the end of our 50th year celebrations, we had to include homages to our leaders - past, present and future - who have shaped the business into what it is today.
First it's Richard Turner - director from 2015-2020 but a valued member of the team from 1987.
Richard was all about the detail and ensuring documentation was well prepared and took great pleasure from projects that really made a difference to user’s lives, such as homes for people living with disabilities.

Striving to achieve social value is not just about supporting causes that align with the business and the things that matter to the leaders of the company, it’s about empowering staff to give something back to the things that they feel passionately about.
We actively encourage colleagues to get involved in things that make a difference to their communities and causes and do what we can to support them to do that in the form of sponsorship, time, promotion etc.
See some examples here in our final ‘giving back’ post of the series

Finding the balance between making education settings feel like vibrant environments without over-stimulating users can be difficult. Often, bright clashing colours and visual clutter can be detrimental to communication - especially for those who are neuro-divergent.
Good design employs visual contrast to communicate, aid wayfinding, identify spaces and more, and considering things like tonal properties and light reflecting values mean they can be both visually interesting and calm and reassuring.

We have a professional and personal interest in supporting people with SEND to live full and happy lives. We’re able to contribute to this in our work, but it’s also something that we actively engage with in the causes that we support as part of our desire to give something back.

We don’t just want buildings and spaces to work functionally, we want them to have a positive impact on those that use them. There are a number of ways that we try to do that and in our second ‘Giving Back’ post, we show you some examples of this.

Giving back / social value / corporate social responsibility / doing reyt - these are all terms that really mean the same thing: making a positive impact on the causes that you believe in (we think the last one expresses it best!).
We’ve created some content on the website about how we strive to give something back and we’ve defined it under four main areas. Here, we show a few examples of how we aim to achieve sustainability in architecture. We’ll be sharing our other three over the next few weeks.

Landlords and developers with redundant space in buildings can showcase the opportunities they have for prospective tenants with a little creative imagination. We’re helping building owners show how space can be used for a variety of applications through photo-real CGI visuals.
For example, these visuals show how mill space in Huddersfield could make an amazing retail space, workplace, or health and well-being studio!
