The Islamic source texts and scholarly tradition have very little emphasis on “manliness” (ذَكُورة) and “masculinity” (رَجُولة). However, there is great emphasis on chivalry (فُتُوَّة) and valor (مُرُوءَة). I’m currently writing a piece about this.
