The Fargo Police Department’s officers, investigators and regional partners recently brought a complex and serious assault case to resolution through diligent teamwork, persistence and outstanding police work.
On August 3, 2025, three serious incidents occurred in Fargo within a similar timeframe, including two homicides involving gun violence and a severe assault in downtown Fargo. It was an especially difficult and unsettling night for the community, with the incidents raising concerns about safety across the city. In the face of multiple serious incidents, Fargo Police officers and investigators remained focused on the work at hand, pursuing leads, gathering evidence and working to hold those responsible accountable.
In this case, at approximately 3:07 a.m., Fargo first responders and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies located an assault victim in the 300 block of Broadway with severe head injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical care. Due to multiple simultaneous critical incidents, no Fargo Police units were available to respond at the time of the initial call. FPD investigators took up the case after being notified of the assault and the extent of the victim’s injuries the following day, when the victim’s family contacted the department.
Over the days that followed, FPD officers, detectives and the Intelligence & Analysis Unit pieced together the incident through extensive video review, evidence collection and community tips. Investigators identified two persons of interest and conducted a detailed timeline analysis using downtown surveillance cameras. The investigation indicated the victim had been struck in the head with a skateboard by one of the persons of interest. A public request for assistance generated leads, including an anonymous Tip411 submission that helped identify the suspects.
Working collaboratively with the Metro Street Crimes Unit, Moorhead Police Department and other partners, investigators conducted surveillance, interviews and multiple search warrants. Critical evidence, including clothing, footwear and the skateboard used in the assault, were recovered as the investigation progressed. Detectives ultimately located and arrested the primary suspect, identified as 20-year-old Tabias Walker, at his workplace in Moorhead, Minnesota, without incident.
Thanks to the dedication, long hours and coordinated efforts of the detectives and investigators involved, along with the work of our partners at the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office, the case was thoroughly investigated and advanced, leading to formal charges of manslaughter. On October 12, 2026, Walker was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with nine years to serve followed by three years of supervised probation.
This investigation reflects the professionalism, persistence and commitment to justice our team brings to their work, even when multiple critical incidents demand attention at the same time. From the moment we began working on this case, to the investigative work that followed and the eventual conviction, this case demonstrates the importance of thorough police work, collaboration and the community’s assistance in helping move a case forward. We are proud of the teamwork displayed throughout this investigation and extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends as they continue to navigate this tragedy.
Our #FargoPD Academy recruits recently took on the stairs at the @the_fargodome, putting in the work just like the @ndsufootball will tonight against Nevada.
With just a few weeks left in the academy, our recruits are closing in on their own finish line. It takes discipline, teamwork and the determination to push through when things get tough, on the football field and in the academy.
Good luck to the Bison tonight, and keep pushing, recruits! 💪
Happy National Boss’s Day!
Today, we’re recognizing #FargoPD Chief of Police Travis Stefonowicz and all the sworn and civilian supervisors who help lead the Fargo Police Department.
Leadership takes many forms, from setting direction and supporting team members to sharing knowledge, solving problems and helping others grow. We appreciate the people throughout our department who take on that responsibility and help our team do its best work every day.
Thank you for your leadership and the work you do for our department and our community!
💜 Today is Purple Thursday, also known as Wear Purple Day, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It’s a day to raise awareness and show support for those who have experienced domestic violence.
A few members of the #FargoPD Criminal Investigations Division wore a shade of purple today to show their support for survivors and recognize the community partners who provide resources, advocacy and support to those impacted by domestic violence.
We’re grateful for the organizations and advocates we work alongside who help survivors navigate difficult circumstances and connect them with the support they need.
On Saturday, October 10, #FargoPD Officers Ulrich and Wallace responded to a neighbor's loud noise complaint about kids playing football in the street.
Although it was after juvenile curfew hours, the kids had parent permission to be outside and adult supervision nearby. In fact, one adult even stepped in as the game's referee.
Before joining the game, Officer Ulrich used his discretion to assess the situation and determined the noise level didn't meet the threshold for a violation of Fargo's noise ordinance. The officers also made sure to speak with the neighbor about the concern and talk with the kids before the game got back underway.
Officer Ulrich, who played one season for @UNDfootball, and Officer Wallace decided to join in for a few plays. Afterward, they spoke with the kids again before leaving, reminding them to keep the noise level down.
Calls like this are a reminder that not every situation needs to end with enforcement. These kids were spending time together playing football, and the officers saw an opportunity to encourage a positive activity and build relationships with members of our community.
Are you missing a snake? 🐍 We have an unexpected houseguest who we'd like to reunite with its owner!
Earlier today, Monday, October 12, #FargoPD Community Service Officer Harmon responded to a home in the 1300 block of 11th Ave. N. after the residents discovered a snake inside that didn't belong to them.
This orange-and-gold snake was briefly “in custody” in a police car-shaped plastic tub on its way to the Fargo Pound. It’s now settled into a proper enclosure while we work to find its owner.
If you're missing a pet snake or know someone who might be, call the Fargo Pound at 701-232-7312. Proper documentation or other proof of ownership will be required to claim it.
Spooky season is officially underway! 👻🎃
On Wednesday, October 7, our #FargoPD officers kicked off attending their first of several Trunk or Treat events this month at @bethelfargo, and the costumes did not disappoint! We spotted fellow officers, members of the SWAT team, skeletons, K-Pop Demon Hunters, soccer players and plenty of other creative costumes. Between the candy, high fives and Halloween spirit, it was a great evening!
Today, on Faith & Blue Day, we're celebrating the connections between law enforcement and the faith community. Attending events like this are a great reminder that building relationships doesn't always have to be complicated. Sometimes, it starts with handing out candy and getting to know one another.
Thank you to Bethel Church for having us! We're looking forward to more Halloween fun throughout October. 🍬
At the end of September, a few #FargoPD officers had the opportunity to attend a couple of block parties in our community!
They had a great time connecting with neighbors, hearing directly about the issues they’re experiencing and discussing how we can work together to address their concerns.
Thank you for the invites! We appreciate the opportunity to build relationships, listen to residents and find ways to better support our community! 💙

Fargo Police Chief Travis Stefonowicz and Captain Matt Christensen of FPD’s Criminal Investigations Division will provide updates and answer questions from the media about the homicide investigation noted below, as well as the investigation into the two deceased individuals found last week following a welfare check.
The news conference will be broadcast and livestreamed across the social media platforms of The Fargo Police Department and The City of Fargo, as well as The City’s access channels and TVFargo.com.
On Monday, September 28, at approximately 4:25 p.m., Fargo Police officers responded to a welfare check at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of 34th Street S. in Fargo. The scene was secured, and members of the Criminal Investigations Division responded to investigate the death. Based on initial observations, investigators believe the victim died as a result of homicidal violence and that the victim and suspect were known to one another.

Detectives in Fargo are continuing to gather information, preserve evidence, and pursue investigative leads. Investigators anticipate attempting to interview George within the next 24 hours. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the exact cause of death, establish a timeline of the victim’s last known contact, and piece together the events leading up to the victim’s death.
Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no additional details are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation. Last week, #FargoPD Officers Henning and Quinlan visited the toddler and preschool classes at @FraserLtd. They got to show the kids some of their equipment, gave them a look inside a squad car and answered a lot of fun questions.
Opportunities like this help kids see our officers in a relaxed setting so that if they ever see them the community, they can see them as familiar, approachable faces.
Thanks to Fraser for having us!
