Dubai Airport should be sued. How was an Omani pilot allowed to fly into Israel despite rules barring Omani pilots from flying into Israel? How did he allegedly get a knife onto the plane? So many inconsistencies. So many unanswered questions.

I went through Sharjeel Imam’s interview with The Quint to understand his political ideology, his views on Congress, AIMIM, regional parties, and his own role in politics. Sharjeel on Congress: He argues that Congress discourages Muslim political assertion and expects Muslims to vote for it largely out of fear of the BJP. He believes a Congress-led government may provide temporary relief but would not bring the structural changes he advocates, such as decentralisation, proportional representation and stronger safeguards for communities. Sharjeel on AIMIM : He argues that AIMIM should contest elections strategically, focusing on Muslim-majority constituencies and seats where it has a realistic chance of winning, rather than contesting randomly where it has little chance of victory and could help the BJP. He criticised AIMIM for relying on emotional speeches, lacking a structural political discourse, appearing mainly around elections, and rarely taking the lead in street agitations. Sharjeel on regional parties: He views regional, Dravidian and Lohiaite parties as important for Muslim political agency and decentralisation. He argues that Muslims should build alliances with such regional and democratic forces where possible. Sharjeel on his own role in politics: He sees his role primarily as developing and spreading a political and intellectual discourse around Muslim political rights, decentralisation, proportional representation and structural change. He identifies the broader political process as involving “Discourse, Elections, Mobilisation,” while focusing his own efforts on political ideas, writing and mobilisation.
