Between 2000 and 2022, global spending on #health rose substantially, but the unequal.
Global spending on health more than doubled from US$ 4.5 trillion in constant prices in 2000 to US$ 9.8 trillion in 2022.
Over the same period, global GDP increased by 87%, implying that overall health #spending grew faster than global GDP.
Domestic public spending on health more than doubled in real terms, to US$ 6.1 trillion, while private spending increased by 85%, to US$ 3.7 trillion.

Saddened to hear about the passing of a good friend and a public health champion, Richard Cash.
Richard was one of the masterminds behind the first clinical trials of oral rehydration therapy — a simple innovation that has saved millions of lives in the past several decades.
He was a champion of health equity and a mentor to so many public health leaders over his long career.
My heartfelt condolences to Richard’s family, colleagues and students. He will be greatly missed.

When people think about distinguishing features of the Chinese economic model, I don't think many think of unusually progressive, i.e. pro-poor, education and health spending, but it's true.

China redistributes quite effectively but fiscal system’s progressivity could be enhanced by a larger share of PIT, reducing healthcare user fees, and raising transfers.
