Printed an Anthology of our Reproductive Health Reports that @JocelynnPearl once kindly called like a “Vogue of Science”. In re-reading them I wish our PCOS & Endometriosis issues had had more hard science, like our Ovarian Aging one. I noticed that the articles I enjoyed the most are the one from researchers talking about the science and the ones I would edit more, even my own writing, would cut the lamentations of our collective suffering. @PolinaLishko, a recognized cellular and developmental biologist, wrote one of my favorite articles because it was so matter of fact and educational on academic publishing as one of the systemic issues that keep “women’s health” research at the bottom of the barrel. I don’t think I have figured out fully how to get my peers in biotech & life sciences, and those who are passionate about solving hard technological or millennial biological problems to find the wonders of sex-specific R&D as fascinating as all else. But I’ll keep trying!

Going to nominate the @DataColada team who have been sued for following the data and attacked by a prominent hedge fund manager
Wow…Roland Fryer and @BillAckman have created a $1 million prize for academic truth-telling, the Carob Trust Prize for Academic Courage. “The prize awards $1 million each to as many as five social scientists a year who have demonstrated intellectual independence, published findings that were attacked rather than answered, and been validated by the evidence—despite the professional cost. The selection criteria are designed to distinguish courage from contrarianism: Nominees must show a sustained commitment to following logic and evidence regardless of pressure, a willingness to ask questions others avoid, and work that has shifted academic debate, public discourse or policy—often despite being misread, mischaracterized or vilified at the time of publication.”

Warning for women going through IVF. Please ask what happens if your clinic was to close down. I know everyone checks reviews but also find out how the business is set up. A string of venture backed clinics closing in Europe has left a lot of women and couples in the wind.

Very exciting to see this work by Mario published. Beyond the fertility story, the paper has some potentially important implications for drug development in a hot class of anti-inflammatory drugs.
First look: an exclusive interview with a researcher behind a new fertility-extending drug being published in Science Advances, and funded by @athenabiorg You'll see it first at our online event this Friday at @BIOHBN. [link]

🏆 Huge congratulations to AthenaBIO-supported researcher Dr. Mario Cordero @CorderoMarioD @pablodeolavide! His project, AthenaLabs, just won the Premio Consejo Social UPO a la Transferencia de Conocimiento at the 18th #UPOemprende competition. AthenaLabs is developing a small molecule to tackle Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR), something that could treat infertility and menopause in the future. Proud to support science that works for women 🧬

A little nod to female reproductive health: we're in Padua, where Gabriele Falloppio held the Chair of Anatomy and Surgery. You might know him for his famous tubes, but he also coined "vagina" and "placenta". cc @athenabiorg – at Padua, Veneto
Women and men don't experience diabetes the same way. AthenaBIO Science and Deal Flow Co-Lead Dr. Estefano Pinilla's @FanONegative research is helping explain why 🔬 We are proud to highlight he is speaking at the @FEBSnews Advanced Lecture Course 2026: Transglutaminases in Biological Processes. Here’s a great demonstration of the importance and power of animal models. Currently, NIH is touting shifting the balance to human research and away from animal models in favor of organoids and AI modeling. This would replace incremental and stalled science with something even worse. I agree that much of the mouse research of the past several decades has not resulted in significant advances. However, learning the first principles of biology requires shifting the balance in the opposite direction: away from human translational research and toward basic science and animal models.
What if we could use a foundation model to simulate human biology from mouse data? Today, we're sharing Perturb-MARS, a platform for genetics and drug treatment in vivo at SCALE. ... and we HUMANIZE the read-outs using TARIO-2.

Great question - these are commonly used in the biotech industry. So to answer your original question of whether there’s a way to make money doing this, the answer is no
I really wish I had a reason to own machines that handle picoliters and nanoliters of liquids and array them out for me very precisely and satisfying in a little grid. Is there a way to make money doing this?

Sci-Hub is an evil website that pirated 85M+ research papers and made them freely available And now they've added AI to their database to make Sci-Bot. It answers your questions using latest, full-text articles. But DO NOT use it. We should all try to make billion-dollar academic publishers richer. I'm putting the link below so you know how to avoid it.

Reading "Civic Solitude" and I stumbled on this logical fallacy I’ve never seen named before, although it explains why a ton of programs fail: we understand the causal mechanism, but not the disease progression. Fibrosis comes to mind. – at Fuente el Saz de Jarama, España
