HE'S BACK! Jeff McFarland and members of the Epitome of Black Excellence group disrupted yet another Aurora City Council meeting last night, demanding that City Manager Jason Batchelor and Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain be fired. This group has repeatedly demonstrated its hostility toward law enforcement and has pushed an agenda that I believe would ultimately weaken and defund our police department. THIS is what happens when Aurora residents don't show up to vote. A small but extremely vocal group is allowed to dominate public meetings, intimidate elected officials, and influence the direction of our city. Now, let's talk about the backstory. Kilyn Lewis was shot by Aurora Police before Todd Chamberlain became police chief. At the time, Lewis was wanted in connection with the attempted murder of a blind man. Police located him in Aurora while attempting to execute an arrest warrant. During the encounter, officers issued commands, and Lewis's movements led an officer to fire. The officer involved was subsequently cleared of criminal wrongdoing. Yet this group continues to demand the firing of a police chief who wasn't even leading the department when the shooting occurred. Aurora residents deserve to know the facts, not just hear the loudest voices in the room. There is a difference between demanding accountability and demanding the destruction of public safety leadership. I spent four years serving on Aurora's Public Safety Committee. I understand the importance of holding law enforcement accountable, but I also understand the importance of supporting the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our communities. Aurora voters, your silence at the ballot box has consequences. If you want a city that prioritizes public safety, supports its police officers, and refuses to be controlled by intimidation and chaos, you MUST get involved and VOTE. Aurora belongs to ALL of its residents, not just the loudest people at City Hall.
