Because where Randy has tried to make it personal by way of attacking Cody and his family, Cody made it personal and brought it back to LEGACY. And he has been! When he had that shoot segment after the McAfee drama, Cody questions him then and there— ‘that’s what St Louis’s own Randy Orton wants for 15?’ Randy has seen all the good his young protégé has done for him and knows only a version of Cody he believes to be true to this day: a good boy who will always do good things. What he hasn’t seen firsthand though, is the version of Cody who will do anything to protect what he’s worked tirelessly over two decades for - what he achieved and built and scratched and clawed his way to earn, away from Randy, on his own. And that version is the most dangerous when it comes to ✨Legacy✨ because NOBODY has ever taken that more seriously, than Cody RHODES. Cody drags Randy to hell before Randy’s music even hit. This solo promo before he rips the tie from his own neck in the Viper’s presence is Cody telling the audience they are not even remotely the same calibre of wrestler today. He says Randy has always been a screwup. Getting away with things other guys would have been fired for, where he was only “slapped on the wrist.” Said Randy would have been the one to break the record with 18 if that’s what he wanted but he was always the one in his own way, self sabotaging and making mistakes left and right.
