No public servant deserves to have their identity disrespected — especially not in the halls of our own government. Trans leaders deserve recognition for their service, not disrespect. We proudly stand for the right to live authentically. 🏳️‍⚧️ npr.org/sections/shots-healt…

In 1996, Sheets organized the first gay picnic in the state. “He didn't see anything that people were doing in the gay community outside the bars. So he decided one day to pay for a [park] shelter and had the first gay picnic. He did it for 15 years at Coonskin.”

Today is the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a pivotal moment in LGBTQ history. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ We are grateful for those that resisted police attacks on June 28, 1969 led by queer and trans people of color. Today, we continue the fight to advance LGBTQ rights.

As we commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, we must continue the legacy set forth by those before us. Our work is only complete once we achieve equality for all. #WeShowUp

As we reflect on this somber anniversary, let's recommit ourselves to creating a world where everyone can live freely and authentically, without fear of violence or discrimination because of who they are or who they love.
Eight years ago today, 49 lives were taken in the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida. That kind of hateful violence is designed to make us live in fear. But, as @bjoewolf says, our community responded with unapologetic love. Now, we must honor them with action.
