The future of sustainable water access depends not only on the infrastructure we build today, but also on the knowledge and decisions that will shape tomorrow. For decades, water projects have been installed in communities, yet many have failed to deliver lasting services, raising an important question about how the sector defines and measures success. In his latest article, Sustainability Is Learned Before It Is Built, @Gtohquality, Founder & CEO of FairAction, explores why lasting solutions require a shift from counting installations to measuring sustained water access, and how research, evidence and education can drive that change. At FairAction, we believe sustainability must be understood, taught and embedded in decision-making long before the first infrastructure is built. Swipe through for key insights, then read the full article to discover how what we learn today can shape what we build tomorrow. In two out of three households without water at home, women are primarily responsible for collecting it. That means water access is not only about whether a source exists. It is also about who has to reach it, how often they have to go, how far they have to travel, and what that responsibility takes away from their day. Understanding these realities matters when designing water systems that are meant to serve communities over the long term. At FairAction, research helps us understand these realities before decisions are made. At FairAction, every online donation goes directly towards community water projects, helping bring sustainable access to safe and affordable drinking water closer to the people who need it most. Our operating costs are funded separately through research services and other forms of giving. This means online donations remain focused on the projects they are given to support. This is the foundation of our 100% Promise: a clear commitment that every online donation goes where it is intended, towards delivering sustainable water access in communities. Make your donation count. Give today and help bring sustainable water access to more communities. #FairactionInternational #SafeWaterAccess #CleanWaterForAll #SDG6

A water project should not be judged by the day it is commissioned, but by whether it is still delivering years later. That is why the FairAction model begins with understanding the community, designing around real risks, and building the right solution for the context. Once implemented, we monitor how the service performs, learn from what happens on the ground, and use that evidence to improve future projects, tools and systems. It is a continuous cycle of diagnosis, delivery, learning and improvement, all focused on one outcome: water services that work, last and contribute to sustainable progress towards SDG 6.1. 💙 Donate to support water solutions designed for long-term impact 🔁 Share, like, and comment to help us reach more people. #FairActionInternational #WaterAccess #SustainableDevelopment

No one should have to be lucky to have safe water. Not lucky enough to live in the right place. Not lucky enough to afford it. Not lucky enough to have a water source that still works. Safe drinking water is a human right. And when that right is still out of reach for millions, choosing to act matters. Your donation can help turn access to safe water from a matter of chance into something people can depend on. That is what fair action looks like. 🔗 Donate through the link in our bio. #FairactionInternational #CleanWaterForAll #CommunityImpact

Water poverty rarely stays a water problem. It can begin with a broken pump, a dry borehole or a long walk to the nearest water source. But its effects quickly spread. A child misses school because of illness. A woman loses productive hours collecting water. A family spends more on healthcare. A community has less time, less income and fewer opportunities to move forward. This is why access to safe and reliable water matters far beyond the tap. It supports better health, stronger education outcomes, greater gender equality and more resilient livelihoods. Solve water sustainably, and you create room for much more to improve. Help us make sustainable water access possible for more communities. Donate, and share, like and comment to help this message reach further.

97% reliability sounds impressive. But for a community, what does that really mean? It means being able to turn on the tap with confidence. It means not having to wonder if the water system will be working today, tomorrow, or when it is needed most. At Fairaction, we know that providing access to water is only part of the work. The infrastructure also has to keep working. That is why we design our Smart Water Systems with reliability in mind, from solar-powered infrastructure and automated monitoring to systems that help us identify issues early. Because reliable water access is about more than building infrastructure. It’s about making sure communities can continue to depend on it, day after day. Support the work. Share this story. Help us make reliable water access possible for more communities. 💧

Water coming out of a borehole does not automatically mean it is safe to drink. FairAction’s research found that 80.6% of 36 public drinking-water boreholes tested across six Nigerian states failed at least one limit of the Nigerian Industrial Standard for drinking water. That figure points to a critical gap in how we think about water access. It is not enough to count boreholes, install water points, or measure how close a community is to a source. We also need to know what is in the water people are drinking. Because true access means water that is available, reliable and safe. At FairAction, we use research, water-quality testing and community-level evidence to help ensure that water interventions do more than provide water. They protect people. #FairAction #CleanWaterForAll

We show up wherever we’re needed. Sometimes, that means bringing safe water closer to a community. Sometimes, it means listening, supporting, and standing beside people through the challenges they face. The impact may look different each time, but the heart behind it remains the same: showing up with care, with purpose, and always with love. Because humanity is found in the ways we choose to care for one another. 💙💧 #WorldHumanitarianDay #Fairaction #SafeWaterAccess #WaterForAll

💧 Water should keep children healthy, not put their lives at risk. UNICEF reports that 70% of water at the point of consumption is contaminated, with children among those most affected. For millions of people, having a water source does not always mean having access to safe water. Contaminated water can expose children and families to preventable water-related illnesses, making something as basic as drinking water a serious health concern. At Fairaction, we are working to change this. Through our Smart Water Systems, we are helping communities access safe, reliable and sustainable water. So far, our systems have dispensed over 7.2 million litres of water, providing communities with a more reliable source of safe water. 💙 But millions more still need access. Donate today to help us bring safe water to more communities. What you see is the water system. What you don’t always see is everything it takes to make sure it keeps working. At FairAction, construction is only a small part of the work. Behind every sustainable water solution is research to understand the community, data to identify why existing services fail, planning to determine what will work, and continuous monitoring to understand what happens long after installation. This is the invisible 95% of our work. Our new website reflects this more clearly, positioning FairAction around what has always been central to our approach: using research, evidence, technology, and monitoring to build more sustainable water services. Because success is not simply about how many water systems are built. It is about whether communities can continue to rely on them years later. Discover more about our work here: fairaction.ngo

What does water access really look like? It’s different for every home, every street, every community. That’s why we start with conversations. We listen, we learn, and we build solutions shaped by the people who live the reality every day. Because when communities are part of the process, change lasts. 💧 #CommunityVoices #WaterSolutions #FairAction

You can’t fix hunger without fixing water. Not with one borehole. Not with one intervention. Water and SDG 2 are more connected than we think. Because zero hunger doesn’t start at the table, it starts on the farm, in the kitchen, and in the quality of water people rely on every day. When that water is unreliable, food production becomes unstable, meals become unsafe, and children face health risks that limit how their bodies use the nutrients they get. That’s why Zero Hunger depends on reliable water service - not just access, but systems that work consistently over time. Read the full blog post: fairaction.ngo/education/blo…
