Men of CS: WL is not the only bad apple, and UM isn’t the only broken university. Society is full of them, in CS, out of CS, around the world. If this is all shocking to you, you just haven’t been paying attention. Start paying attention. – at Seattle, WA

I want to share my (relatively mild) experience interacting with WL at conferences because it let to some thoughts about being better, being more than just bystanders. (1/?)

I asked, "If you had the full attention of the full faculty for 5 minutes, what would you most want them to hear?"
That led to this presentation, which I gave for our Inclusion Minute on Feb 4: docs.google.com/presentation…
I encourage all to read it, it's not long

This seems so basic ... but I guess it is CS. Reminder that when you doubt survivors:
1) You’re doubting people who had nothing to gain, and everything to lose, by coming forward.
2) Everyone who might have reported to you in the future learned that they shouldn’t trust you.

Please don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was assassinated. A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who quote him now and evoke him to deter justice today would likely hate, and may already hate, the authentic King. #MLK

I was on adrenaline until now and hadn't really processed everything. What I'm thinking today is that if this is happening to me, with an incredibly supportive team+manager (who is also a director) & a lot of visibility, what are they doing to other Black women?

I was taking care of a patient the other day who was very seriously injured. And I stepped out to talk to his family briefly and give them an update. For context, he was Black. I told them what was going on quickly and asked if they had any questions. And this is what they said.
