Joe Mazzulla on reports of the Celtics vibes being high at training camp "Every team you lead is the most together team right now. Because we haven't traveled. No one's gotten benched. No one's been on a losing streak. No one's gotten blamed in the media. No one's had to go stand in the corner for 10 minutes and not get the ball. So, you learn those things as the season goes on, and you just learn how to work through those things together. And you can't simulate those. It just comes with time. And so, right now I would say all 30 teams feel great about themselves, and we got to wait till adversity hits. And adversity is even a strong word. There's nothing really adverse about playing in the NBA. But we got to wait until stuff doesn't go your way, and then you got to figure out who we are and how we're going to be at our best." Andy Green tells a story about Jared Young from their time in the Cubs organization: "We sent him down on the last day of the minor league season in Chicago one year. There was one more minor-league game the next day and we said, 'don't worry about it. You can go on home.' This guy likes to play so much, he said, 'can I drive to Iowa and play?' If you want to, but you can be done. I've never had a player do that in that situation. Most people are like, 'I'm leaving the big leagues, good - let's call it a season, let's move on. It's good enough.' He texted the Triple-A manager and said, 'I'm coming. I want to play. Can you put me in the lineup?' He hit a walk-off home run that day to end the minor league season. It's just indicative of the type of person he is, how much he loves being on the baseball field. He's loved in that clubhouse. He was loved in the Triple-A clubhouse. Any place he is, he's thought really highly of. He's just a great guy who had a great season, exceeded a lot of people's expectations. I don't think he exceeded mine at all, having had a lot of time with him through the years. I've believed all of this was possible and even more, but for him, I know it's a disappointing way to miss out on the last ten days of the year."

Pulled the data and found an NFL QB x/y axis combo that satisfies my two requirements: 1. Gives an NFL Napoleon (Tom Brady) 2. Puts Andrew Luck in the ballpark of a Civil War general (Ambrose Burnside)

What happens when every NBA team works from the same data? Former Phoenix Suns Assistant GM Ryan Resch on why dashboards show lagging indicators, and why the edge comes from proprietary questions built on public data. On Infinite Loops with @jimmyasoni.

Pete Alonso met up post game with Mike, Nick & Chris - the trio of Mets fans who caught his 300th career home run. They exchanged the ball for signed baseballs, bats and Alonso to sign their jerseys. Pete brought beers and offered the trio tickets to games in Baltimore

Changeups are supposed to be better against opposite handed hitters. This year, they aren’t. And guess which team has capitalized on a key insight from a statistical model about which changeups should be thrown to same handed hitters?

Excited to officially launch Glynn Baseball Advisory. College baseball recruiting is more complicated than ever. GBA is intentionally a smaller, selective advisory so we can work closely with each player and family, providing honest evaluations, clear direction and a recruiting plan built around the individual. This isn’t a volume business. It’s personal guidance from someone who knows the process. Honest recruiting guidance. No empty promises. GlynnBaseballAdvisory.com

Saint Louis attempted 88% of its shots at the rim or behind the three-point line this season. It's the highest percentage for any team this decade.

A commonly cited figure is that MLB pitchers miss their targets by 10-13in on average. I did some digging and turns out this makes no sense. It's actually more like 7-10in. Here's why:
