It’s shocking how so many facts about WWI are not better known. Great @FWWCCC2019 Festival this weekend uncovering these lesser known stories.
Artist Kooj Chuhan talking about the incredible scale of recruitment from the British colonies during WWI. 1.5 million from India alone...over a quarter of the number from Britain. His exhibition is on here until 7 May. @FWWCCC2019 ^kg

Really enjoyed our session on women’s war resistance with Ali Ronan and Lucienne Boyce. Learned about some fabulous and largely forgotten women like Phyllis Skinner (Manchester) and Lily Girdlestone (Bristol) – at Bristol, England

Such a wonderful culmination to a grand day of the @FWWCCC2019 as Otherstory puppetry retold the story of a local Bristol bike-shop owner who sheltered conscientious objectors - including a cameo appearance by @SarahLloydHerts! @fwwlives

Today I learnt about Mabel Tothill (1869-1965). She was active in campaigns for women's suffrage and against poverty. She campaigned against conscription and supported conscientious objectors. In 1920 she was the first woman to be elected to Bristol City Council. @FWWCCC2019
