Did you know... I was doing some research this morning and asked ChatGPT to produce a table comparing some clinical features of POTS, ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, Long COVID, and fluoroquinolone-associated disability (FQAD). I've reviewed countless similar tables during my research before. But staring at this one this morning, something stood out to me like never before. Just 2 words. COMMON vs. REPORTED. Look at the rows: Common. Common. Common. Common. REPORTED. Those two words capture exactly what I've been trying to get the medical community to recognize. For the other four conditions, there are prevalence studies, cohorts, and registries for Chatgpt and others to draw from. For FQAD, there are none. No prevalence data. No registry. No long term follow up. Just case reports. FQAD patients live with many of the same debilitating symptoms seen in POTS, ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and Long COVID: autonomic dysfunction, neuropathy, profound exhaustion, cognitive impairment, sleep disturbances, gastrointestinal problems, muscle pain, and exercise intolerance. Yet we lack all of the clinical structures needed to treat us. Fluoroquinolone toxicity lacks the comprehensive research needed to tell us how common these manifestations are. We have case reports. We have adverse-event reports. We have FDA recognition. We have decades of warnings. Yet the persistent multisystem disease experienced by FQAD patients has never been systematically studied. Never. Unbelievable. An entire patient population has been overlooked, inadequately studied, and left without answers. We need research. We need recognition. We need physicians who understand what they're seeing. Because “reported” doesn't mean our suffering is addressed or less common. It means we haven't adequately studied how common it is. MISSED.
