Carrick will be sacked soon enough and it was very easy to see coming, the board has set him up with the horrible transfer window and the patience of the fans is already close to finished. United is a hopeless football club and always will be until the ownership changes.

I don’t have anything to say about this horrendous performance because it’s just another in a long list of horrendous performances since August 2013. The team will go up and down over the years but the general direction will never be upwards until the owners are gone.

Fans will naturally get excited whenever the club has a good 3 months but then when it’s time to be serious and kick on, to go and sign top players or go and hire the top manager it never happens and it never will with these owners. That’s the bottom line: hopeless.

When someone tells you Maradona was only highly rated because of the 1986 World Cup you can safely assume that they’re a stupid person. Maradona produced magic on the pitch every week for well over a decade. He is, and always will be, the greatest player that I’ve ever seen!

To tell you the truth I’ve been burnout and lost a lot of my interest in the sport ever since the World Cup ended. 6 minutes of Maradona clips that I’ve already seen hundreds of times has my passion burning ever so slightly again. Maradona is a spiritual experience.

When it comes to judging players in a team sport if any part of your analysis involves trophies then you can throw the analysis in the bin. The great players often do win the big trophies but it's not in their hands, all an individual player can control is their own performance.
Okay but in all seriousness though, is it actually possible to be the greatest player of all time without actually winning the World Cup? I don't think it's even possible.

So yes it's absolutely possible for the GOAT to be a player that never won the World Cup.

I’m not sure who will win the Balon D’or but I find it very difficult to make the case for anyone other than Messi. The clear best player at the World Cup in a season that was lacking in remarkable club performers. Even at 39 years old he was the best player in the world.

He’s a 1 of 1 midfielder, technically excellent and physically dominant. Jack of all trades and master of nearly all of them.

Very happy as a United fan but don’t think that’s a red card for Foden, Bruno’s kicked at him too, there’s not much in it imo.

I remember back in 2018 the prevailing sentiment was that Messi would never play in another World Cup. If you told me back then that he would play in 2 more, win one of them, and produce 2 phenomenal campaigns, I would’ve laughed at you. A beautiful story, comes to an end today!

It’s not only the fact that Messi ended up winning 3 trophies when it looked very much like he would never win one for Argentina but he also produced 3 fantastic campaigns all in his mid-late 30s. Speaks to his greatness and the brilliance of Lionel Scaloni as a manager.

Up until that point Messi had been a perennial under-performer for the national team, many inside Argentina were disillusioned with him and he withered in the shadow of Maradona. Overcoming all of that in the twilight of his career is BY FAR his best achievement as a footballer.

Anyone who doesn’t rate Kobbie Mainoo just doesn’t watch the games. None of the 3 CM signings are better than him, that being said they do at least offer a different dynamic. He still needs to start the vast majority of the games for United.

How is fucking Luke Shaw our starting LB in 2026? INEOS and the Glazers are just despicable.

Incredible that Guardiola lost a league title because he refused to start Rayan Cherki (his best player) every week. Let’s see if Maresca learns from the errors of his role model predecessor.

Football is quite simple really, play your best players and ask them to do what they are best at. Of course it’s not so simple if you believe your “system” is the protagonist and the players are mere cogs in your quest for the maximally optimised game model.

I told whoever would listen last summer that Florian Wirtz was a terrible transfer and a vastly overrated player. I predict that Bradley Barcola will be another huge transfer flop for Liverpool, their recruitment in the last 3 years has been utterly shambolic.
🚨 BREAKING: Liverpool reach agreement in principle on terms of deal to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. Still details to finalise between #LFC & #PSG but moving fast after breakthrough overnight on package ~£120m, ~£100m fixed @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/7538061…

Every time I’ve watched this guy over the last 3 years I’ve been unimpressed. He’d be a quality super sub or rotation player just as he was for PSG and France. £120m “superstar” in your front 3 week in week out? Absolutely fucking not.
