Teachers are exhausted. Managing 34 kids at the same time. They are heroes. & parents need to step up
American teacher breaks down into tears because teaching American elementary school students has become so hard 🚨 She says she only has 1 student out of 34 kids who passed She says it’s gotten so bad, “I literally put the word on the board. I write it on the board and I say copy it, and they're copying it wrong — it's almost scary because you're like, dude — then you start questioning yourself. You're like, is it me? Like, what? — I'm exhausted” “I’m exhausted — like, there's some days that I like doing it, but man, to do that every single day it's exhausting — Breaks my heart” She extremely frustrated because she knows by the way the students are performing that their parents are not doing what they are supposed to be doing with their kids It comes down to the parents. Our education system and parents are failing our kids. I remember going to school and everyone had to behave, everyone had to learn and do the work to pass, you weren’t even given an option We have gotten too soft and there needs to be punishments and accountability again

Are there some YC founders out there who've experimented this and can share feedback?
How does the YC Office Hours Simulator work? 1. Walk up to a booth and press "start simulation" 2. Get randomly matched with an AI YC partner. They know who you are and what you're working on (based on your application) 3. Talk about whatever's on your mind. Each Partner is trained on hundreds of hours of how they normally run their Office Hours (video features AI @xuster. photo features AI @garrytan) That's it! Built by @snowmaker and the @ycombinator Software Team for #StartupSchool 👏 @sumanyu @bryantchou @sidney_primas

Great idea!
We need a Tutor Benchmark so that frontier models care to flex for education... a ~$2T/yr "market" with profound implications.

Congrats @hassaanraza !
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test. 48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video. It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard. cellcog.ai/blog/tavus-gri… research.nvidia.com/labs/amri/proj… tech-ish.com/2026/10/02/tav…

Today I saw the future of robotics, and I’m convinced: robots will clean and cook for us and I can’t waaait!! Some people call that a useless luxury. My grandmother thought the same thing about washing machines. The future is cool. Give people their time back and see what they do with it.

Interesting take
I think every time AI can do something equally good or better than humans it stops being valuable or special Marketing videos used to take lots of work of editing and motion graphics and a big budget Now with Opus 5.5 etc it costs $0 to make one as good or better That means ANYONE can make a marketing video now, so the timeline gets flooded with these videos (as you see happening now) and people stop caring about them, stop watching them and they stop grabbing attention The response then to still grab attention is be different and that probably means IRL marketing videos that are original and unique and maybe personal It's the grim reaper meme where AI keeps commoditizing another media format and bringing the cost down to close to $0 It already did so for graphic design (2023), last year with Nano Banana for photography (2025), this year with Seedance 2.5 it did it for video (2026) and this and next year motion graphics

Researchers proved AI has deleted every reason universities exist. Harvard University ran a controlled experiment pitting a custom AI against their own top-tier classrooms. And the results are going to collapse the higher education bubble. They took 194 undergraduates and split them up. One group learned physics in one of Harvard’s best hands-on, active-learning physical classrooms. Group work. Instructor support. The premium university experience. The other group went home and learned the exact same material with an AI tutor. The AI didn't just win. It embarrassed the institution. Students using the AI learned more than twice as much as the students in the elite Harvard classroom. They scored 30% higher on the final assessment. And they did it in less time. Let that sink in. A piece of software sitting on a laptop outperformed a world-class faculty in one of the most elite learning environments on Earth. Universities have always justified their exorbitant tuition with two things: access to elite knowledge and the physical classroom experience. This study just proved both of those moats are gone. When software can teach you complex physics twice as well as a $60,000-a-year institution, the math of higher education breaks permanently. The AI didn't just give the students answers. It used strict pedagogical guardrails. It guided. It questioned. It forced the students to do the cognitive work. It offered perfect, one-to-one tutoring, personalized to the exact moment a student misunderstood a concept. That level of attention is mathematically impossible to scale in a physical lecture hall. For a thousand years, the university was the only place to get a premium education. Now, it’s the bottleneck. If AI can double your learning speed for a fraction of the cost, what exactly are students taking on decades of debt to pay for?

em dash almost gone! ⬇️
We analyzed how @claudeai’s Opus 5.5 writes compared with Opus 5 across high-reasoning Text Arena outputs. 10 of 12 writing measures moved in a better direction. Opus 5.5 should be easier to read: - Long content words fall from 41.7% to 38.6%, the lowest share of any Claude model we analyzed. - Sentences are 17% shorter on average, dropping from 12.14 to 10.03 words. The tradeoff is length. Answers get 6% wordier, rising from 453 to 481 words on average, making Opus 5.5 give the longest answers across the Opus family. It also sounds less recognizably AI on two familiar tells: - 95% fewer em dashes - 73% fewer semicolons But a new giveaway may be emerging. Hedges and caveats such as “perhaps” and “arguably” rise 97%, from 0.39 to 0.77 per 1,000 words, the highest rate of any Claude model we analyzed. What do you think: does Opus 5.5 read more naturally?

Many schools today hold smart kids back. They’ve eliminated gifted classes to address “historical inequity.” “This is so misguided,” says @MichaelPetrilli, of @educationgadfly. We show how that hurts ALL kids:

Impressive results! Machine should be used to make humans better. More coming very soon with Sophie, your most human AI tutor
Today we establish that AI is as good as expert human tutors for immediate GRE learning gains (p=.015, n=2,383 students, study conducted July-Sep 2026). One hour with an expert GRE tutor: $75. One equivalent hour with an AI tutor: 7 cents . 918x cheaper, equivalent learning (p=.044, n = 140). In 5 of 7 academic topics, the top AI tutor beat the expert human tutors on average. How we measured it: pre-test -> 1 hour with (AI or human or no) tutor -> post-test. There are no LLM judges. Learning gains are post-pre. Everything is real students. Why we did this: > 1 trillion USD is being spent per year on machines making machines better. StudentBench shows us how to shift these resources so machines also make humans better. Why I did this: I grew up in rural Kentucky. My dad, grandad, and great grandad were all mailmen. Getting into a good college changed my life. Now we have done a rigorous study to help AI labs evaluate LLMs and help show how bright AI can be for students of all incomes. I believe in good science that leads to the democratization of opportunity. The research paper behind StudentBench: arxiv.org/abs/2609.28470 Data, code, details: in this thread If you're wondering what I'm selling, sorry to disappoint: we released all study data for free on Hugging Face, and made studentbench.org free to use. Enjoy. lots more in the video / thread!!

i have a 1 y/o son, and with how fast AI is moving, it's just impossible not to wonder what his education will look like. it's completely obvious the traditional education model is outdated and about to get disrupted in a massive way. so i've been thinking a lot about the things i ideally want in my son's future schooling: > a personalized-to-him AI tutor if something comes naturally to him, let him breeze through it. if he's struggling, explain it using examples from things he's interested in, so it holds his attention and actually makes sense to him. i think hed learn so much faster that way (instead of being stuck at the same pace as every other 8-year-old just because they were born in the same year) > critical thinking, especially around AI. i want him to get comfortable asking "how do we know that's true?" whether it's something AI tells him, something he reads online, or even something i tell him. then learn to look for evidence before deciding what he believes. i want him to learn to write without AI too, because putting his own thoughts into words is part of learning how to think i also want him to learn to sit with difficult problems before asking AI to solve them > learning by building things. i think @nateliason's founders school in nyc is an awesome example of this. students build their own businesses with the goal of $1M profit before graduation. i want my son getting out into the world, testing his ideas, making mistakes, and learning from what happens. in fact just finding out why someone won't buy what you made is a pretty good education on its own > room to follow whatever he's obsessed with. if he's into rockets, use that to teach him physics and math. help him build one. i want him to experience how exciting learning can be when you actually care about the thing you're trying to figure out. > good human teachers who have time to actually get to know him. people who notice when he's frustrated, challenge him when he's taking the easy way out, and introduce him to things he wouldn't have discovered on his own. > a LOT of time around other kids. yes, AI will make homeschooling incredibly good academically. but a huge part of school is learning how to be around other humans. making friends, disagreeing without being an asshole, learning humility ,surviving embarassing moments. you have to actually live through that stuff i'm hoping we have a lot more schools like this to choose from by the time he's old enough!
