Had a awesome time at the Fight Oligarchy Rally with Angie Nixon and Bernie Sanders in Melbourne, FL. I got to meet a lot of cool people while I was there. Naturally, I was near the front in the 3rd row center just like at concerts. This event had that kind of a feel including a band from Tallahassee. Angie and Bernie were both great. I’ve seen them both live before and it was expected.
Fortunately, I stayed the night at the Crowne Plaza Beachfront Melbourne resort where the event was being held and I got valet parking. Turns out the event was so big, it was moved from this hotel to across the street in a huge parking lot. I was at the hotel by Noon enjoying the resort until about 2 hours prior when I went across the street to the event. People were bussed in because parking was limited. The event still got a couple thousand people in spite of the parking, intermittent rain, and strong winds.
When it was done I went back to my room and changed into my FSU gear and drove to the Double Tapp Grill about 10 minutes away where the Brevard Seminole club was having a game watching party for the FSU vs Miami game. I got to meet some nice people there too and see the game from midway through the 2nd quarter through the double overtime finish. #FightOligarchy #FightOligarchyTour #AngieNixon #BernieSanders #Melbourne #Florida #MFGA #MakeFloridaGreatAgain #VoteBlue #VoteBluer #Democrat #SocialDemocrat #Progressive #ProgressiveFL @AngieNixon @BernieSanders @OurRevolution @SenSanders @FL4Bernie2020
Enjoying an overcast day at the Crowne Plaza on Melbourne Beach. No worries, I have a bottle of New Riff Bourbon, an oceanfront room, a bar, a drink, a stage, a live band playing the blues, a pool, and a beach! Then later is the Bernie Sanders & Angie Nixon rally. Then the FSU vs Mia game tonight. Life is good! #CrownPlaza #CrownPlazaReaort #LongboardsOceanFrontGrille #Blues #MelbourneBeach #Florida
I don’t usually get to see shows during football season. However, l got to see Albert Castiglia my fellow Miamian. He’s on tour in support of his new album Grits & Glory. The album came out 2 months ago and has been on regular rotation on my blues playlist. My favorite cuts are “My America”, “Michigan Avenue”, “Slumlord Billionaire”, & “The Milk Is Still Hold”. It’s a BMA worthy release. I’m so glad he keeps his own thing going with this new album in addition to the Blood Brothers gig and their new album.
I had 5th row and got just a few pictures, but I also got video of one of his new songs. You can see it on my YouTube Channel. The show was awesome as usual. The Albert Castiglia Band (ACB) is consistent like that. Just like the venue Cafe Eleven which never disappoints. The sound is always the best here. The ACB came as a 3 piece band minus the keyboards. He played for about 1 hour 45 minutes non-stop. He also told some good stories to the audience. He lives in Florida so we get to see him often. He knows this and mixed up the set list with a bunch of deep cuts, new songs, and covers. Plus he always plays a Junior Wells song being a former member of his band. The set list included: “Michigan Avenue”, “Sack The Juggler”, and “Afro Blue” off the new album. He also played “Sway” by the Rolling Stones, “All Our Past Times”, “Drowning At The Bottom”, “One way Out” by Junior Wells, and “Dirty Mother For You” by Buddy Guy & Junior Wells. even brought up Melody Trucks for a few ABB songs.
It made for a terrific night of music. I was feeling off during the day, but some great ACB blues and Rye Whiskey at night turned that frown upside down! As that Albert Cummings song says, The blues makes you feel so good! I’m always interested in new blues music. I got some tonight and can highly recommend you see Albert Castiglia on this tour. #AlbertCastiglia #AlbertCastigliaBand #ACB #Blues #BluesRock #FloridaBlues #CafeEleven #StAugustine #Florida

I just joined the new @seminolesunited Seminoles United as a Founding Member. I’ve enjoyed both events I went to. The one in Tuscaloosa and the one in Louisville! Keep it up so us traveling Noles can meet up in every city!
I appreciate that they choose better places for better food and higher end liquor (bourbon and rye whiskey mainly) than the previous Seminole Club/Seminole Booster events which are never worth the price. I’d only go to see the people I knew, but then sometimes we’d bypass the events altogether. Now I will go to all of these events when I travel. #SeminolesUnited #NoleFansTravel #FSU #Noles #GoNoles #FearTheSpear #FSUFootball @SeminoleBooster
Finally! The Fight Oligarchy Tour is coming to Florida! Bernie Sanders and Angie Nixon will be in Tampa Saturday 10/17, Melbourne Saturday 10/17, Gainesville Sunday 10/18, and Tallahassee Sunday 10/18. Yay! I will be going to one of these tour stops just not sure which one yet. #FightOligarchyTour #FightOligarchy #BernieSanders #AngieNixon #NotMeUs #Florida
Starting my next book, I Ain’t Studdin’ Ya by Bobby Rush and Herb Powell. It’s the 2021 autobiography of Grammy and BMA winning blues legend Bobby Rush. It covers his life from picking cotton and playing juke joints in Arkansas and Louisiana as a teenager, to his move to Chicago, his signature 1970s hit "Chicken Heads," and his decades-long career as the "King of the Chitlin' Circuit". I’m looking forward to doing another blues book on a legend. I’ve done so many, I’m hard pressed to find any blues book I haven’t done.
To be honest, I held off on this one for a while because I’ve never been a fan of his. I’m just lacking content. I saw him live recently just to pay homage to the man and he was pretty good but not great. I also saw him 20 years prior in 2006 at the Atlantic Theater (Yes, I saw live blues at the Atlantic Theater on Atlantic Beach) and he was just ok. I was more impressed with the young guitarist and bass player he toured with back then. I still remember he and his band kept saying his name all night like a narcissist would! I left the place and heard “Bobby Rush” in my head for days. I’d wake up and hear it. Funny but annoying as hell. I know your name & who you are, I just paid to see you play a show. Legend or not, sometimes you should just STFU and play the blues! #IAintSuddinYa #MyAmericanBluesStory #BobbyRush #HerbPowell #Blues #AudioBook #Audible
I forgot to mention, I also went to a Speakeasy in Louisville. Ky. A famous one rated very highly called Hell Or High Water. I went there a few nights ago. I had a blast and would definitely recommend it. It’s located beneath Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville. Technically, it’s behind a non descript store front off a side street behind whiskey row. We did have a struggle finding it. I was having too much fun to take pictures so these are their photos. Same with this retro check in after the fact. Deal with it!
If you google it, you’ll probably get the movie of the same name first. Just know it’s one of the best movies ever and it’s a Taylor Sheridan film. Yeah, he makes movies too.
From their website: “Hell or High Water is a subterranean cocktail lounge for those with a discerning palate. We specialize in original and classic cocktails, elevated spirits, and a carefully curated bourbon selection - all served in an intimate, candlelit space designed for connection and conversation. Choose from cozy lounge seating in our Library and Lounge rooms, bar seating for a front-row view of the action, or one of our private rooms for a more exclusive experience. Reservations are encouraged, though we keep a handful of seats available for walk-ins.” #HellOrHighWater #Speakeasy #WhiskeyRow #Louisville #Kentucky
Just finished the book, The French Illusion by John Grisham. Yes, it’s a brand new spy thriller from my 2nd favorite writer. In this book, a couple has a fairytale wedding and their future is full of promise. But their honeymoon to Paris takes a dark, shocking turn when they are kidnapped while on a day trip to the French countryside. Who would target them, and why? It turns out this is not the first crime of its kind. The search for clues soon stretches across borders, with the FBI, CIA, and French Intelligence trying to work together to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Struggling to find answers, a young lawyer is recruited to be the bait in an elaborate CIA operation.
It was excellent. I bought it the day it came out. I do every Michael Connelly and John Grisham book. It’s different in that it’s a spy novel. He still finds a way to make the spy story about lawyers though. It was a bit gruesome at times, but worth it with an interesting story line and a cool cast of characters. I highly recommend it. Also, the greatest narrator, Michael Beck, did the narration! #TheFrenchIllusion #FrenchIllusion #JohnGrisham #MichaelBeck #AudioBook #Audible

Wonderful trip to Louisville, KY. Mission accomplished, with 6 distillery tours! Loved the city and the surrounding Kentucky towns I drove through. I also loved all the old buildings and architecture of the homes around Louisville. They’re affordable too! I checked like I do in every cityI Yes, I could definitely live there, just not in Winter. Went home Saturday to Jacksonville, FL. Booo! I mean yay! Sort of! 😉
