So so so excited for the amazing opportunity to be a part of the HHMI community and the 2022 Gilliam cohort. With this fellowship, I will continue to develop my leadership and mentorship skills as I prepare for an academic research career and leadership in STEM 🇻🇪 🇵🇷

Si eres amante de este deporte llamado fútbol, recuerda que aún eres un privilegiado viviendo 'in situ' los últimos momentos del mejor jugador de la historia del fútbol: Lionel Messi
“Love is everywhere if you look for it.”
A little crystal heart formed with salts from my lysis buffer in a bucket. I saw it and I just had to take a picture and share it. Science has beautiful moments like this when you least expect it ❤️🔬🧪 Share with a scientist you love!
I am happy to share that my thesis work, which talks about the the mechanisms that control naive T cell migration to S1P, is now out on Biorxiv:

Special shout out to @Henry_de_belly who will launch his lab at UTSW in January. Go check out his science!!!

It's a sad day for many young scientists around the country. NIH just sent termination notices for MARC, GRISE, PREP, IMSD, IRACDA, and BRIGES.
Thank you to @JuanAlvarezDom for a fantastic keynote in Spanish! We closed out the year with the largest @IDEAL_Research @Penn_SACNAS Hablemos Ciencia event ever and with a Parranda and Puerto Rican food!!!❤️🇵🇷 My heart is full! #SpanishScienceIsScience

Farewell, HHMI…for now. Thank you @HHMINEWS Gilliam staff and @blackprof77 for their leadership, mentorship and investment in the next generation of scientists. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms. I am truly honored to have been here as myself and nothing less 🇵🇷🇻🇪
@jdhallphd, Adrielle, and Mel, you have a special place in my heart ❤️

Things I wish my academic friends and colleagues knew about Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷:
28) Please don’t come up to me to tell me MY people lost an election where 150 million people voted. As a targeted minority, we’re way more frustrated than you and we even lost two elections that day.
Things I wish my academic friends and colleagues knew about Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷:
1) We say “buen provecho” (translates to bon appetite) to not only wish you a good meal, but it is also common curtesy amongst family, friends, and strangers. Talking during meals is not seen as rude.
27) Things I wish my academic friends and colleagues knew about Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷:
Our Christmas is arguably the happiest on Earth. The music won’t stop at least until the 6th. Come join us!
Today in @IDEAL_Research @Penn_SACNAS Hablemos Ciencia, we had @ChemistAndrea and Elena Alvarez Periel, PhD, present their research in Spanish and invite their families in to the talk! What an amazing session! #SpanishScienceIsScience #LanguageInclusionMatters
Ojalá hoy voten por un cambio para que menos de nosotros seamos obligados a vivir lejos de casa. 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
Imagine messing up so bad for the RNC and the PNP that Ricky Roselló, the famously disgraced ex-governor of Puerto Rico we kicked out…is being called up for damage control to help get the Puerto Rican votes for both Trump and Jennifer.

US white supremacist colonialism has been consistent with #PuertoRico since 1898 -
Imagine telling a racist joke at a political rally where that behavior is often supported…and totally bombing and getting backlash…only to then say you “love us because you vacation there.” That’s ironically the best joke he’s told in the last day.
These people have no sense of humor. Wild that a vice presidential candidate would take time out of his “busy schedule” to analyze a joke taken out of context to make it seem racist. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I made fun of everyone…watch the whole set. I’m a comedian Tim…might be time to change your tampon.
