In today’s #MustRead, @PhilGordonDC argues the U.S. can’t afford to walk away from the Middle East, but needs a new approach: fewer troops, more diplomacy, and less risk of getting dragged into another costly war. ⬇️ foreignaffairs.com/iran/amer…

Nearly $2,000. By my calculation, that is what the Iran war has cost the average American household since the war began nearly eight months ago. Nationwide, that adds up to $265 billion.

"We choose the unapologetic pursuit of national power," with no regard for universal values or common good -- this Rubio speech could have been given by Putin, Xi Jinping, or Mussolini for that matter (if they were being honest), and gives allies zero reason to align with us.
SECRETARY RUBIO: Today, we find ourselves at a crossroads because the next decade and the decisions we make will write the story of the next century. The course we take will determine whether the West maintains its place at the head of the world, or resigns itself to a future of atrophy, servitude, and decline. We will either choose to act now, or lose the choice to act at all. Under President Trump, the United States has made its choice.

I don’t know how many times we have to say it: this man clearly is demented, disturbed, and should not be our president. Trump advocating for attacks on American cities should outrage every American. Nearly 10 million people in Los Angeles and San Diego are not a “small price to pay.” Today it’s our cities. Tomorrow, it could be yours. We will not normalize this. We will not stand by as he attacks our communities and encourages violence against our neighbors. And we will not be collateral damage in his failed, reckless war of choice.
Trump: "With the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay ... let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay."

In today’s #MustRead, @SuzanneNossel argues that rebuilding U.S. credibility on human rights should start with something the country has long stood for: pluralism, and the idea that people with deep differences can still belong equally to the same society. ⬇️ foreignpolicy.com/2026/10/05…

When you wonder why Putin, Xi & other adversaries are increasingly targeting America & our allies… …we have a president who suggests sacrificing millions of lives and the gaul to call it a “very small price to pay”
