Open source taught me something I didn’t expect: Your code is never really finished when you push it. I started contributing to @fossasia ecosystem and, over short time, ended up with 25 PRs merged and 14 more in review across 7 projects. One project, VoxBento, became a completely different learning experience. I wasn’t just fixing UI bugs. I found a role escalation issue, an interpreter handoff deadlock that could lock an entire booth, and a mic takeover bug that could let one interpreter silence another. While working on an AI interpretation feature, maintainer review pushed me even deeper. I found and fixed 3 WebSocket authorization bypasses, prompt injection issues, a cross event data leak, and an unbounded webhook payload risk. The important part wasn't just fixing them. For every security issue, I added regression tests that would fail without the fix. @fossasia , founded by @mariobehling , serves the opportunity to contribute to open source projects and learn through actual code review and collaboration. Open source taught me to stop thinking: "Does my code work?" and start thinking: "What happens when someone else depends on it?" If you’re building in open source, I’d love to connect.
