β€œwe can’t.” He agrees despite every part of his body denies it as a fact. The decision to leave wasn’t taken lightly, and forcing distance between them had help him to finally see how unfair the whole situation was. and the fact that there was a moment in time that β€”

β€œdon’t I know it.” He thinks, if it was any other person the possibility would’ve been higher but astoria was, is, a tough act to follow and he found it out the hard way. β€œI appreciate it.” He tightens his embrace taking the last of their nearness to heart.

β€œI’ve always known i didn’t have a chance but I’ll take the short time together and look at it fondly.” despite the heartbreak it’s causing him, loving meant letting go. β€œI hope you find the happiness you deserve. And I mean it.” When he finally looks up his eyes β€”

true happiness is something Theo’s not sure he's felt much of; whatever mess is inside his head still leaves him with a hint of sadness around the edges, a lot of the time, however well it's hidden beneath an easy smile, good humour and a charming personality β€”

β€” Maeve for the first time he felt happiness. So it feels like the rug is being pull under him but he has always known, that no matter how much he loves her, he could never really have her. β€œI’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said all Of that to begin with. It is not β€”

β€œ. . . I am guessing your conversation with Astoria was tough.” He thinks about astoria and finding those messages, if he were in that position…. Well, he’d be devastated. β€œI appreciate that… and please do consider the position. I know it isn’t something you can accept right β€”

β€œI promise I have no other intentions than to just clear the air. We still have two months to work together and I rather spend in peace. Avoiding one another is not an option.” They intersect in many aspects, it is best if they had an agreement.
β€œ it shouldn’t . ” she should not be having panic attacks over the thought of him leaving . β€œ i can’t be in here . we can’t be alone together . ” she stands as he sits , the very act of talking to him feels like a betrayal of astoria .

his stares lingers, just as much as their hands are clasp together. the laughter does not deter him, if anything Theo understand the reasoning behind it. he does stand simply to seat yer her side, finally letting go of her hand. β€œYou don’t need to explain yourself, it happens.”

β€œall things considered I think it could have been worse.” After a few seconds of letting the silence linger, he inhales deeply. β€œwe don’t have to talk, I just want to make sure you’re well, that’s all.”
two inhales later and she does . she opens her eyes , able to meet his gaze . β€œ . . . not the welcome back you were expecting , i imagine . ”

Releasing a short breath himself, Theo waits until she is ready, until she is able to open her eyes and look at him.

he waits and the waiting feels like torture. he waits for his colleagues to leave. Most lamenting his departure with words of encouragement with the occasional request for him to reconsider. His responses are generic but he puts enough β€”

β€” thoughts that make it difficult for her to breathe . gripping the armrest gently , she focuses on her breath , trying to get enough oxygen in without alarming her colleagues who had all began to file for the exit .

β€” Charm to his voice that he slides out of conversation quite easily. he hopes Maeve doesn’t leave, actually approaches her when the room finally empties out leaving the pair on the massive auditorium. β€œhey, can we talk?”
